Thanks for catching this and letting me know Sumanuil. One of the previous edits removed the word "logo" from the filename so I thought that editor had redirected to a new image (their image was later deleted as no fair use page had been created). I was trying to restore the old redirect in the hope the old image still existed (it does in the French Wikipedia) but to no avail. I few more sources wouldn’t hurt, because there are some football editors who seem to enjoy deletion recommendations, but I reckon the ones you have, especially in the limerick post and sporting limerick, are solid shows of notability. Hi. To confirm, this edit is in keeping with WP:TPFIXLAYOUT. Per WP:TALKO, the guideline you reference, corrections to layout and format are not unreasonable. The (2008) "Recent Managerial History" comment by one user has no reason to be a sub-section of the (2006) "Former Players" comment of another user. And could impact automated archiving of either section of that talk page. (Changes to sectioning and indentation and the like are not unreasonable under the guideline. And the guideline specifically describes those things as "OK". There was/is no reason to consider that minor copyedit to be contentious. As clarified in WP:NCCREFACTOR). Thanks. Hi @Guliolopez,

I politely but firmly disagree with you that the edit was in keeping with WP:TPFIXLAYOUT. None of the exceptions listed there grant permission to change other users' headings, with sectioning being the closest. In this case, the section was not overly long and so did not need to be split into a separate discussion for that reason.

Moreover, as per WP:TALKO, "it is not necessary to bring talk pages up to publishing standards, so there is no need to copy edit others' posts", whether you deem them minor or not.

However, if your intent was to restructure rather than copyedit, as per WP:NCCREFACTOR, then I agree this situation fits the guideline and will restore the change. I personally would not make this type of change unless I was contributing to the discussion but that's a matter of taste.

To avoid confusion in future, can I suggest that you add a brief edit summary to explain why you have made the change in line with WP:FIES, especially when editing another user's comment, as opposed to simply "ce" for copyedit. Thanks.

Hi @Diannaa,

While I appreciate your herculean work on identifying and removing copyright violations, I feel this is quite a harsh removal and extremely harsh to template a regular in this particular instance. I use Earwig's Copyvio Detector to ensure I avoid violating copyright and, in this instance, the percentage of similar text was 33.3% well below the tools parameters for possible copyright violation or heavy paraphrasing. This appears to be even more evident as the text I added was not fully removed, implying that the issue was only related to a subset of the added content. I would like to restore the part of the text that has been removed (pertaining to the FAI's side of the argument) but would like to do so in a manner that takes your view into account to ensure copyright is not violated. Wikipedia has a very strict copyright policy, stricter in some ways than copyright law itself, because our fair use policy does not allow us to copy material from copyright sources when there's a freely licensed alternative available. In this case the freely licensed material is prose that we write ourselves. The material that I removed was 77 words copied verbatim from a copyright web page elsewhere on the Internet, without a citation and without quotation marks to indicate that it was a direct quote. I'm aware of the Wikipedia policy on copyright but unfortunately I'm still not aware of how these edit violated said policy. I'm also not aware of a minimum number of verbatim words triggering a copyright violation by becoming a direct quotation but perhaps you can direct me to that specific policy to aid my understanding instead of providing general information. I am aware that an apology from me does not fix any inadvertent copyright violation but I'm at a loss as to how to avoid this if you are implying that Earwig's Copyvio Detector is insufficient to verify copyvio.

I would also like to correct your statement that there was no citation as both paragraphs did indeed have an inline citation (the Irish Times reference that still exists on the page). In fact, one of the edits was made to ensure that the author was credited in the reference but you've now hidden the diffs from public viewing so I can't prove that was the case as I'm not an administrator. While I'm more than willing to defer to your experience in these matters, the lack of clarity, lack of attempt to educate and now unnecessary deletion of logs has left me wholly disturbed by this interaction and does not appear to meet the high standards of patience, care and education I've come to expect when dealing with Wikipedia's admins to ensure the community remains aware of, and avoids, copyright violation. Please don't use the percentage shown by Earwig's tool or the tool's assesment of whether or not a violation has occurred. It's not a useful way to make a determination. As far as minimum length of copying allowed, there is no lower limit. It depends on the creative expression component. Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing gives examples that are as short as two words. So 77 words in exactly the same order as the source document is definitely a violation. You are welcome to re-write the removed content in your own words.
