Stickist Derryl Thomas Holmes has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe under names "Windflight" or "Future Primitive" His music is a hybrid of Jazz/Rock/Fusion and World Musics. Derryl Thomas Holmes attended The Berklee College of Music in Boston.Ma, The School of Contemporary Music in Brookline,Ma. Under Pianist Jeffrey Furst, Studies with Saxist John Payne, University of Ma. Harbor Campus,NE Conservatory 3rd Stream program under Pianiat Ran Blake, he has performed in such diverse settings as: CalArts at Valencia with Drummer/ Gamelan Master Michael Pievac, The Living Theatre with Rain House, (featuring The original"Particle Dance" Composition for modern interpreted dance. he participated in earlier explorations with Drummer Margue Gilmore and Guitarist David Gilmore,performed at The Cambridge Ma. Club The Western front,Solo/Leader debut at; System M with Drummer Dan Potruch. He began his career in Boston ma. with the Progressive Rock Band "Red" with guitarist Ottmar Liebert,The Nuclear Rhythm Orchestra with Steel Drummer/Keyboardist Bryan Parris,Performed with The Friends of Great Black Music Ensemble under the direction of Syd Smart and Armstead Christian.Derryl has release one Independent recording: "Resolutions Way" on his own label Windflight Media. Derryl Thomas Holmes is an Independent Recording and Performing Artist,who in his own words: I walk outside of the stifling industry packaging, This music has its own voice and speaks from the turbulent existance of everyday life, juxtaposed with my cosmic,spiritual connection with The Most High. Immersed into everything and nothing. Born Deryl Holmes in Central Georgia, his earliest musical influences were,Young Holt unlimited,Allan Holdsworth,Jimi Hendrix,Miles Davis.Derryl started out as a Horn player in High School played Baritone Horn( the 3 valved wind instrument) Harmonica,Flute, and later Lyricon, an electronic wind instrument created by: Bill Bernardi of Computone,of Norwell,Ma. He first heard The Lyricon on a piece by Rahsaan Roland Kirk "Lyriconon" Derryl played in every situation possible for a creative Jazz Musician, which led him to an ad posted by Guitarist Ottmar Liebert,Founder of the Prog Rock band RED and its Guitarist, who had a loft on Thayer Street in Bostons Backbay area called 'RED loft Systems, with Dancer Betha Yancey, Guitarist Ottmar Liebert and Brother Stefan liebert, it was Stefan Liebert who sold Derryl his first Chapman Stick,which was later past on to drummer Margue Gilmore. Marque Gilmore encourage Derryl to join The Black Rock Coalition an earlier outlet for creative jazz/Rock Artists. Derryl is currently working on new material and is spearheading several Projects on tap for 2010 and beyond, Concerts are scheduled in Playa Del Carmen Mexico, along with lectures and talks worldwide, with Multi Instrumentalist Bryan Parris. He performed at Pan African Festival in Macon Ga. twice on April 2003 with Drummer/Percussionist Jason Currin, in 2004 as a Soloist. Recorded live with The Central Georgia,Prog rock Group "Big Hairy Monster", Guitarist Foster McMullen, he was also featured with them at 550 Blues on Riverside, in Macon,Ga. on Febuary 5,2010. After being diagnosed with Congestive Heart failure in 2008, Derryl Thomas Holmes has returned in 2010 in rare form.
