Vicky Moon has chronicled the lives of the rich, the not-so-rich, the famous, and the not-so-famous for more than twenty years. She has covered murders and prominent lives in for People Magazine and the Washington Post; and written about horse country hunt balls, steeplechase races, and parties for Town and Country, Millionaire, Veranda, and Southern Accents magazines. She was a co-founder of the first newspaper in a well-known (and chic) horsey village of Middleburg,Virginia called “Middleburg Life.”
Ms. Moon later sold the paper, and now runs the website known as middleburgmystique.com. She has served as a contributing editor for House and Garden. She has appeared on A & E’s City Confidential and served as a producer for Dominick Dunne’s Power, Privilege and Justice. She writes the monthly column called “Over The Moon” for the fashionable magazine, Washington Life.
Ms. Moon is the author of The Official Middleburg Life Cookbook, The Middleburg Mystique: A Peek Inside the Gates of Middleburg, Virginia, Best Dressed Southern Salads, A Sunday Horse: A Year on the Grand Prix Show Jumping Circuit, The Private Passion of Jackie Kennedy Onassis: Portrait of A Rider, and Equestrian Style: Home Design, Couture, and Collections from the Eclectic to the Elegant (due out in July, 2008).
Ms. Moon is also a photographer and many of her photos have been published in her books and along with her many magazines articles. She won an Honorable Mention in the Gourmet Magazine competition. She appreciates fine gardens and has traveled the world taking pictures and is a member of the Piedmont Garden Club.
In addition, Ms. Moon is an avid tennis player and in 1990 competed on the Volvo tour as a member of the Middleburg Tennis Club team which won the sectional championships and went on to play in the Nationals in Palm Springs. She rides as frequently as possible and has two wonderful horses-KayCee, a chestnut who is part quarter horse and Doubtful Diva, a retired race horse. Vicky Moon lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Middleburg, Virginia, with her husband, sportswriter Leonard Shapiro, and their son, Taylor Shapiro-who plays polo. They also raise pet goats.
