George Perez Jr. is the son of parents, George Perez Sr. and the former Lucia Miranda, both longtime residents of San Marcos, Texas. He was born on December 17, 1946 on his grandparents farm, Jose and Matilde Miranda in San Marcos, Hays County, Texas. George Perez, Jr. has two brothers, Alfredo, and Robert Perez, and one sister, Amelia Silva. Mr. Perez joined the United States Marine Corps, November 10th., 1965. He undertook his bootcamp training at U. S. Marine Corps Depot, San Diego, California, and completed his Advanced Infantry Training at Camp Pendelton, California. George Perez, Jr. arrived in Viet Nam in 1966, and was attached to 1st.Marines, 2/9, Hotel Company. His two tours in Viet Nam were quickly followed by the Med Cruise (Mediterreanian)where he visited many points of historical significance, and was able to absorb much of the customs and rich cultures around him due to his linguistic skills. George Perez, Jr. was briefly (2 weeks) attached to the French Foreing Legion based on Corsica. While there he trained and interacted with the Legionaires on a daily basis.
