I am a patent lawyer (US), presently in private practice; formerly as patent counsel for a semiconductor corporation. My technical background is in aerospace and electronics, although much of my professional work includes computers, physical chemistry and biotech. I am a licensed pilot (instrument and commercial).
I have made a number of edits to various impaired driving pages. My interest stemmed from some work on arrest and confession, in which I realised that a significant percentage of "guilty" convictions derive from "confessions" and subsequent plea bargains, not involving an actual criminal act.
Much of my other experience derives from aerospace, law and US and international prosecution (obtaining patents).
I was never arrested for suspicion of impaired driving; however, I had been pulled over several times for "weaving" or the like, each time without drinking or drugs. My concern about the potential of arrest inspired me to research this issue. (It turns out that it would have been unlikely to occur after intoxication, but by the time that became apparent, I had already researched the subject.)
