Besides these scientific interests, I am also enormously interested in politics and philosophy. In that respect, I consider myself to have a left wing political position and a progressive ethical viewpoint (e.g. I am pro choice, I am a strong supporter of gay marriage, ...)

My favourite economists are Kenneth Arrow, Paul Krugman, Joseph Stiglitz and John Roemer.

Other intellectual inspirations include Alan Turing, Richard Dawkins, Immanuel Kant, Herbert Marcuse

Favourite politicians: Franklin Delano Roosevelt, George Mcgovern, Ted Kennedy, Harvey Milk, Barack Obama, Frank Vandenbroucke, Barney Frank and Sherrod Brown.
