ACT TRUE
ACT TRUE
ACT TRUE is an acronym used to define dimensions of Data Quality. The dimensions defined are measured to establish whether they are Accurate, Complete, Timely, Trusted, Relevant, Understood and Engineered. Although not formally adopted by national or international standards bodies (eg IAIDQ or ISO_8000) the acronym is in common daily usage amongst Data Quality professionals and is a convenient tool for communicating the concepts of Data Quality to non-specialist individuals.
Each of these metrics can take the value of Yes or No and would be evaluated/measured by answering the questions below.
Do the values of the data accurately reflect the properties of the real life object that data item is measuring?
Does the data fairly represent the full and complete population of real life objects the data is intended to describe?
Is that data presented before a defined point in time and for a suitable period such that that data is available for use for a specific and defined purpose?
Is that data trusted by a user or users as an accurate representation of the defined real life object or objects for the purposes they require it?
Does that data item represent a suitable measurement of a real life object so that the user may use it for the purposes they require?
Does the user understand how the data item represents the real life object, what property of that object it is measuring and how it is being presented?
Has that data item been designed and controlled appropriately such that it provides the necessary information to the user for its intended use?
'Real life objects' can be either tangible or intangible objects as well as events or occurences. Other commonly used dimensions of data quality not directly referenced in ACT TRUE include (but are no means limited to):
- Consistency
- Entirety
- Breadth
- Uniqueness
- Interpretability
- Precision
- Depth
- Integrity
