Edmund de S'ms (about 1021 – 1079), also known as Edmund the Confused (French: Edmundo le Bonkers), was first cousin of Duke of Normandy and a key aide in William the Conqueror's plans to invade Switzerland. Unfortunately when taking an advanced party east William decided to invade England, the rest as they say is history.

To make amends William awarded Edmund a series of villages which now form the City of Portsmouth.


[edit] Early life Edmund was was born in Valise, Normandy, the second son of Dennis I, Duke of Bergundy, who named him as heir to Normandy. His mother, Charmange was the daughter of Norbert of Blacmange.
