Simon Waranch (born 1999) is an American contemporary glass artist and sculptor based in Dallas, Texas. He is noted for his integration of traditional Venetian glassblowing techniques, such as reticello, into abstract and modern sculptural forms. His work has been the subject of several solo exhibitions at American museums and institutions.

Early life and education

Waranch was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He first encountered glassblowing at the age of 15 during a school trip to Murano, Italy, an island globally recognized for its historic glassmaking tradition. He began practicing the craft while attending the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, graduating in 2018.

He pursued higher education at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, Michigan, which he attended on a Walter B. Ford Scholarship of Excellence.

Career and exhibitions

Waranch's career began to receive museum and gallery attention while he was still a university student. In November 2018, his debut museum solo exhibition, Glass Matters: The Emergence of Simon Waranch, opened at the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas.

Subsequent solo museum and institutional exhibitions include:

  • Simon Waranch, Young Maestro (2019) at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts in Longview, Texas.
  • From Earth to Light (2020) at the National Center for Jewish Art in Dallas.
  • Past Particles: Simon Waranch's Life in Glass (2023) at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas, which marked the institution's first-ever dedicated exhibition of glass art.
  • Patterns (November 2024 – April 2025) at the historic Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center in East Hampton, New York. The exhibition served as the site's first-ever winter exhibition, featuring handblown glass, wood, and metal sculptures displayed in juxtaposition with the home's native domestic decorations.

In April 2025, Waranch collaborated with the commercial handblown glass brand Glassybaby to design a limited-edition series of 300 handblown votives produced at his Bishop Arts studio in Dallas, with a portion of the proceeds supporting regional arts education and nonprofits. In 2026, his solo exhibition At the Threshold, featuring the installation piece Skittles, was showcased at the Dallas Arts Tower.

Collections

Waranch's sculptures are held in the permanent collections of several art institutions, including:

  • Longview Museum of Fine Arts (Longview, Texas)
  • Imagine Museum (St. Petersburg, Florida)
  • Museum of the Southwest (Midland, Texas)
