Ryan Mark McMahon (born October 19, 1979) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, guitar and harmonica player originally from Ladysmith, British Columbia who now resides in Vancouver, B.C. McMahon is an independent recording artist who has put out two full-length albums: "Better Days Gone By" (2006) and "Weeks, Months, Years" (2008).

Personal Life

McMahon was born in Chemainus, British Columbia, the son of Barry, a Longshoreman, and Diane, a school teacher who specialized in working with special-needs children. He still shares a close relationship with both today. McMahon has been involved with his manager, Cathleen Lundgren, since 2007; they live in East Vancouver at their home and office.

Career

McMahon has worked closely with long-time friends Mike Rogerson (guitarist, and producer of the albums) and Dustin Young (bass, guitar, vocals), both of whom are also originally from Ryan's hometown of Ladysmith, B.C. Ryan and his band has toured Canada extensively as a self-contained, independent unit, playing their special blend of rock, roots, and folk music throughout their home country. They've shared the stage with a wide variety of performers, including Nickelback, Lisa Loeb, Daniel Powter, Jeremy Fisher, and Holly McNarland.

Ryan's debut record, "Better Days Gone By" was produced by band-mate Mike Rogerson, and featured long-time live staples "Girl on Top," "Liar," and "Dirt for Sale." The album was released to independent record stores, and was only available otherwise off-stage at the live shows. It did, however, garner him enough attention to get he and the band secure management from current manager Cathleen Lundgren's Mission Entertainment company in early 2007.

In 2008, McMahon and his band-mates released the acclaimed "Weeks, Months, Years," also produced by Mike Rogerson featuring the singles "Lights Out New Orleans," "Comeback," and "Falling Out of Love." That album was made available at HMV's across Canada as well as online via iTunes and PureTracks, where the band has seen the bulk of it's sales. 2008 also saw McMahon get attention for his writing talents, as he was recognized by the West Coast International Songwriting Competition for his song "Weeks, Months, Years" in their folk category. "Comeback" also received much praise, being chosen as one of Music BC's picks for several of their Music Licensing opportunities.

McMahon's live shows are one of his most mentioned characteristics, as is his distinctive voice, one with an intensity that has been compared to Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Sam Roberts and Ryan Adams. The band plans to take said live show across Canada again in the summer/fall of 2008, on a 30+ date tour of their homeland.
