Ryan Johnson was born in 1974 in the state of Illinois and was raised in Michigan and has resided there for the majority of his life. He served in the United States Navy after high school, then attended Michigan State University. While at Michigan State he attempted to start his first company, a local area night club in conjunction with several other area club owners during the turbulent 90's, during the period of the riots at Michigan State. The business venture crash and burned in its attempted formation.

Ryan's next start up venture started with several high school friends and began much more humbly. Game publishing. Under the newly formed company named the Guild of Blades Publishing Group the group of friends published Grunt Fantasy Miniatures, a simple and inexpensive tabletop gaming rules booklet. This has led to hundreds of additional game designs and publications since that start in 1996. Ryan is now partner and half owner of the Guild of Blades Publishing Group which has a home on the web of guildofblades.com

Humble business start ups do not often come with gainful employment, so in the following years Ryan found work in a myriad of places. Moving furniture, bouncing, fast food, sales, and then in the dot com boom, eventually as a brand manager for FaxForFree and marketing director for Glory Education.

Ryan married his wife, Amnouy, in 2006 and together in 2008 they formed GOB Retail, a small hybrid hobby game retail store and first of its kind print on demand retail store for start-up publishers. While the print on demand concept struggle to grow past its inherent production limitations, the retail side of the business thrived and grew into Michigan's largest game and comic store. GOB Retail has a home on the web of gobretail.com and a physical brick and mortar location in Clawson, Michigan.

Ryan keeps himself busy these day being a partner in both the publishing and retail companies and growing a few gray hairs on the side.
