There is much variety in ligases present in different species, however homology also exists.[citation needed]
(see )
There are three DNA ligases known to exist in plants, including DNA ligase I and IV, which are homologs of the mammalian varieties and found throughout eukarya. However a third DNA ligase, DNA ligase VI, may also be found in higher plants with likely roles in DNA repair.[1] DNA ligase VI appears to be unique to higher plants, though is at present much less well characterised.[2]
Yeast has just two DNA ligases, DNA ligase I and IV homologs.
