Language literally affects the range of colour we can see, and it was almost impossible to prove that in this modern world (because there is only about one tribe left that has a unique sense of colour and language). It is not the cognition, of putting words together, but the words individually. The numerosity, and precision, of description. The more unique words and idioms in the human psyche, literally, the richer we are as a species in other ways.
You don't fight your way into the mind. You fight your way out of it. Understood language, not successful speaking, opens the doors in the mind. And it is looking through words that gives you the language to open the doors. Not smashing through things that you can't tell if they are there or not.
If you were wild in the jungle and come on some free time, you'd either make some music or play some kind of game, or you'd do art and craft, and stuff that leads us deeper into the colours. You'd explain the meaning and the words to each other, while the children were listening. Possibly...
