Alex Roman(born in Alicante,Spain,in 1979),birth name is Jorge Seva,a Spanish filmmaker,CG artist.[1]He worked in several companies both in Architectural Visualization and visual effects fields in Madrid since until he raised a brand new company by himelf:"The Third & The Seventh S.L.".After that, he took a sabbatical year for to work on an already-built work visualization series, which are now stitched together into a short animated piece: "The Third & The Seventh". He won a Cannes Film Craft Gold Lion in the year 2011 for the Silestone brand commercial: "Above everything else". As well as Prix Ars Electronica - Computer Animation / Film / VFX prize in the same year for "The Third & The Seventh" shortfilm. In the year 2011 he also participated David Fincher's feature "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"as a visual effects supervisor. Roman's work has been featured in Motionographer, FilmPro magazine, Filmnosis and FXGuide among others. He has just released the self-publish book "From Bits To The Lens" that covers both artistic and technical aspects of his "The Third & The Seventh" shortfilm.[2]




Early life

Alex Roman was born in 1979, in Alacant (Alicante), a city in Spain. After being trained in traditional painting at a few academies, he moved to Madrid and began working at a visual effects company. At that time,the lack of demand for visual effects in Spanish market made him switch into the VIZ (architectural visualization) business.After he worked for several companies,he started his own company:"The Third & The Seventh S.L.". [3]


The third&The seventh

"The third&The seventh"is a FULL-CG 12 minutes animated piece that tries to illustrate architecture art across a photographic point of view where main subjects are already-built spaces. It used both surrealism and realism to depict architecture.[4]"The third&The seventh"was released in 2009,which was all made by Alex Roman.[5]The name of this short film was based on some philosophical concept.Moreover,Some philosophies of aesthetics enumerate seven primary art forms derived from Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's "Lectures on Aesthetics" and the writings of film theorist Ricciotto Canudo: architecture, sculpture, painting, dance, music, poetry, and cinema.TheThird&TheSeventh is an artful combination of photorealistic architectural renderings and stylish CG cinematography.[6]Alex's work has been featured in many famous film making websites.[7]


Above everything else

"Above every thing"is a 60 seconds advertisement made by Roman,which was released in 2010.[8]It is a spot for Grupo Cosentino's Silestone brand countertops.[9]The spot features fruit, vegetables, quartz crystals and other objects in slow-motion flight - some even shattering - intercut with scenes of a kitchen. Most of the objects were created as 3D models with photographs projected onto them.The only full photograph used was for the scene of Manhattan outside the window in the final shot that was projected onto a cylinder.[10]He won a Cannes Film Craft Gold Lion in the year 2011 for the Silestone brand commercial:"Above everything else".[11]


From bits to the lens

Roman released his self-published book "From bits to the lens" in 2013, which breaks down his previous work short film "the third&the seventh" through theoretical principles, experience and thoughts.[12]

Participate in films

In 2011,Roman supervised more than 20 visual effects shots for the acclaimed David Fincher's feature "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".[13]
