Fate/Extra CCC (フェイト・エクストラ CCC, Feito/Ekusutora Shī Shī Shī) is a video game released by Marvelous AQL on March 28, 2013, and is a sequel to Fate/Extra.[1]

The game is set in the Moon Cell, which has been transformed by an error in the spiritron computer, and depicts a battle against BB, a mysterious beautiful girl who is secretly maneuvering to seize control of the Moon Cell.

The completely limited-production Fate/Extra CCC Type-Moon Virgin White Box includes the figma "Saber Bride", the art book Visual Works, and a limited character song CD sung by Sakura Tange. Both the regular and limited editions also included the special booklet Fate/Extra CCC Virgin Bride as a first-come purchase bonus and a sticker newly illustrated by Arco Wada as a first-print bonus.

Development

Kazuya Niinō, producer of Extra, liked Sakura Matō among the characters of the Fate series and wanted to make a game in which many Sakuras appeared in a dungeon; he proposed this idea to Kinoko Nasu at the earliest stage of planning for Extra.[2] In a 2020 interview with 4Gamer.net, Niinō recalled that he was pleased that the plan had been realized.[2]

Although Kinoko Nasu of TYPE-MOON was to handle the main scenario, a harsh schedule awaited once development began.[3] For example, normally the scenario writer would give detailed instructions about character expressions and background music, but for this title Nasu could only specify expressions and broad CG directions.[3] Therefore, of the seven chapters, TYPE-MOON prepared the plots for chapters 4 and 5, another writer did the first writing, and Nasu then rewrote that scenario.[3] When Nasu consulted Niinō about a scenario writer to whom he could entrust entire parts, Natsuko Ishikawa, who had joined as an event planner, took the role.[3] Ishikawa had been called in to help during development of the previous Fate/Extra, Nasu knew her abilities from that work, and because all portions other than the two chapters in question had already been completed at the time of the commission, chapters 1 and 2 were used as samples for the order.[3]

In a conversation with Nasu and Niinō, Ishikawa said that writing the scenario for this title was full of memorable moments. She was particularly struck by the many stage directions written between lines in Nasu's manuscript, describing character emotions and foreshadowing.[3] Another thing she remembered was a large blank space between Karna and Jinako's lines, where Nasu had written that he had produced good banter between the two but had deleted it without saving and asked for a little more time.[3]

Hideyuki Mizutani, the game's chief producer, described the Red Lancer, who first appears in the game, at the production announcement held during Machi★Asobi [ja] vol. 7 in 2011 as a "capable but somewhat unfortunate type", like Luviagelita from Fate/hollow ataraxia.[4] Originally, five Alter Egos under BB were planned to appear as the Sakura Five, but in the end only Passionlip and Meltlilith appeared in the game.[5]

System

The basic system is the same as in Extra, but there are several changes. For example, "soul alteration" and skill point (SP) allocation, which existed in the previous game, were abolished, and skills are learned only through leveling up with experience. The player character can also jump in fields and arenas, and new features were added to the My Room: a "Gallery" for viewing events and similar material, and a "Closet" for changing the costumes of the player and Servant.[6] A feature first introduced in this game is the "Secret Garden".[7] This term refers to a character's secret inner feelings; the player can progress through the game by exposing them through conversation with the character and removing the barriers around the character's heart.[7]

As hidden elements, characters from Fate/stay night, including Archer (Emiya), appear under the premise that they have been reproduced through the Moon Cell's observation of the Fifth Holy Grail War.

Story

During the main round of the Holy Grail War, the protagonist helps the NPC Sakura Matō, who is in charge of the infirmary. Peaceful days then pass at Tsukumihara Academy, but an abnormal incident suddenly occurs when a black shadow attacks. The protagonist is cornered, but hears the voice of their Servant and escapes the crisis. The protagonist then wakes up in the old school building of Tsukumihara Academy. In this building, located in an unused area on the far side of the Moon that is not used in the Holy Grail War, several Masters and Servants, NPCs, and others, including Leonardo's pair and Sakura Matō, have gathered. To return to the Holy Grail War, the protagonist and the others cooperate in an attempt to escape from the far side of the Moon.

The protagonist learns that they can return to the near side of the Moon by breaking through the dungeon called the "Sakura Labyrinth", which spreads out from the schoolyard of the old building, and begins exploring it. There, however, Tohsaka Rin, calling herself queen of the Moon, blocks the way with a new Servant, Lancer.[7] With the help of Kiara Sessyoin, one of the Masters who had reached the old school building, the protagonist defeats Rin and restores her sanity. Immediately afterward, BB, a girl who closely resembles Sakura Matō, appears, and it is revealed that she has taken hold of the Moon Cell's power as the Holy Grail and caused the disturbance in order to destroy the Earth.

Rin, who had been brainwashed by BB, and Rani VIII, whom the protagonist later rescues, join the protagonist's side, but BB again stands in their way. BB displays powers that appear almost omnipotent and has Alter Egos, composite Heroic Spirits, under her command. While the protagonist fights a deadly battle with Passionlip, one of them, Jinako Carigiri, one of the Masters helping the protagonist, is captured by BB. After overcoming a fierce battle with Jinako's powerful hero Karna, the protagonist finally corners BB, but BB defeats Leonardo and Gawain when they rush to the scene. The protagonist is also imprisoned by BB, but returns to the old school building through the actions of Julius, who had been secretly maneuvering behind the scenes.

The protagonists defeat and seal Lancer, who had confronted them three times, but on the next floor they struggle against the second Alter Ego, Meltlilith, and Kiara exits the story during the conflict. Through Shinji Matō's life-risking actions, however, they find a way forward and drive Meltlilith back. To oppose BB's powerful authority, the protagonists enter the cyber-bodies of their Servants in order to awaken the Servants' power. With the assistance of the reformed Lancer, they succeed in strengthening the Servants. The protagonist then heads to the deepest part of the Sakura Labyrinth to restore BB's sanity and save the world.

BB, who awaits them at the core, reforms after receiving the protagonist's sincerity. Kiara Sessyoin, who was supposed to be dead, then appears with her Servant, Andersen. It is revealed that Kiara is the person who caused Sakura to go mad and is the true mastermind behind the incident. Having absorbed BB's authority and transformed into the Demonic Bodhisattva, Kiara corners the protagonists with overwhelming power, but BB's feelings for the protagonist, which Kiara was supposed to have absorbed, become an obstacle, and Kiara is defeated by the protagonist. With the help of the Servant and BB, the protagonist escapes the collapsing Sakura Labyrinth and returns to the near side of the Moon.

Characters

For characters first appearing in Extra, see that article as well.

Protagonist and Servants

Hakuno Kishinami
The protagonist of the game. This is the default name, and the player can freely set the name in-game.
As in the previous game, the protagonist has amnesia, but remains fundamentally good-natured and handles the student council's chores. In the middle of the story, the protagonist is dropped into an imaginary number space with no exit but continues to search for hope, and even when pushed to the brink of deletion in the Servant's memory area, continues walking forward; this mental strength makes BB call the protagonist "abnormal".
Saber
Voiced by Sakura Tange.[4]
The same person as Red Saber in Extra.[8] Her true name is Nero Claudius. In terms of performance she is a standard type.
When assigned a costume resembling a wedding dress, she is initially not very enthusiastic because it also has the meaning of a restraint, but depending on the protagonist's choices, she begins to like it. A new skill, "Fax Caelestis" (星馳せる終幕の薔薇, Fakusu Kaeresutisu), is also added; its line is not related to battle at all but is instead a confession of love to her Master.
When distinguished from her Extra costume, her appearance in the wedding dress is sometimes written as "Saber Bride". This costume also appears in Fate/Extella as an additional costume in the Nintendo Switch version.
Archer
Voiced by Junichi Suwabe.[9]
The same person as Archer in Extra. His true name is Nameless. In terms of performance he is a technical type.
He is assigned a new outfit consisting of a red leather jacket worn over bare skin and black leather pants; although embarrassed, he does not refuse it. A new skill, "Excalibur Image" (永久に遙か黄金の剣, Ekusukaribā Imāju), which can be used only while activating his Noble Phantasm, is also added. It projects the Fifth Holy Grail War Saber's "Sword of Promised Victory" (Excalibur) and releases a slash, and even the stance recalls Saber's.
Caster
Voiced by Chiwa Saitō.[10]
The same person as Caster in Extra. Her true name is Tamamo-no-Mae. In terms of performance she is a maniac type.
Her new costume is based on gothic lolita clothing with ribbons resembling turtle-shell bondage, emphasizing her sensuality; even the protagonist evaluates it as too stimulating. Her affection for the protagonist, her Master, escalates further. Her new skill, "Juhō Gyokuten Kuzushi", is an expanded version of the "polygamist castration fist" mentioned in the previous game and, as its name suggests, has the performance of a male-critical attack.
As a hidden element, a Caster contracted with Twice appears as a Moon Cell reproduction of the time when she had contracted with him. She speaks seriously, while a Servant describes her as a doll.
In the ending, the eight severed tails become Alter Egos and appear as the "Tamamo Nine". Thereafter, in related works such as Fate/Grand Order and Fate/Samurai Remnant, members of the Tamamo Nine appear as individual characters.
Gilgamesh
Voiced by Tomokazu Seki.[11]
Height: 182 cm / Weight: 68 kg / Measurements: B94/W73/H93 / Blood type: unknown / Birthday: unknown / Alignment: chaotic good.
Parameters: Strength B / Endurance B / Agility B / Mana A / Luck A / Noble Phantasm EX.
Skills: Independent Action EX / Divinity B (A+) / Golden Rule A / Collector EX.
The same Servant who appeared in Fate/stay night and Fate/Zero. He boasts that he possesses all the treasures of the world and specializes in a fighting style that fires countless Noble Phantasms stored in his treasury. He also uses the anti-world Noble Phantasm "Enuma Elish" with the Sword of Rupture, Ea. If the player chooses him, the difficulty is "Cheat". Although he has no memories of the original Holy Grail War, he makes remarks suggesting them, such as his preferences in women.
He speaks in an extremely arrogant manner and calls himself "the absolute and first king" and "the King of Heroes". He claims to be a Servant who does not fit within the classes established by the Holy Grail War and has those around him call him Gilgamesh. In related works such as stay night, he materializes in the Archer class, and there is a scene in which Karna points this out.
Because Gilgamesh often makes statements related to the truth of the story, the scenario's original author recommends choosing him on a second or later playthrough.
The treasury setting existed in earlier works, but this game reveals it in greater depth. Since heroic legends derive from the legend of Gilgamesh, the oldest hero of humanity, the originals of heroes' Noble Phantasms ultimately reach him, and those originals are the originals of human wisdom and models for all technology. Therefore, the treasury possesses everything humans create regardless of past or future timelines. Conversely, things it does not possess are basically things made by the civilizational technology of a completely different new humanity or intelligent life from another celestial body and thus by wholly different concepts, or things that exist but have never been used and therefore cannot be identified as an original of anything; these are not stored or cannot be retrieved even if stored.

Masters

Rin Tohsaka
Voiced by Kana Ueda.[12]
A girl spiritron hacker. She falls to the far side of the Moon separately from the protagonists and is made by BB into a Sentinel of the Sakura Labyrinth.
Rani VIII
Voiced by Asami Sanada.[12]
A homunculus girl. Like Rin, she falls to the far side of the Moon and is made by BB into a Sentinel of the Sakura Labyrinth.
Shinji Matou
Voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya.[12]
A boy spiritron hacker. When he is dropped to the far side of the Moon, he becomes separated from his Servant and stays in the old school building.
In the real world he is revealed to come from a fallen distinguished family and to be a designer baby created using superior genes purchased from the Western European Plutocracy for a large sum of money. His real reason for participating in the Holy Grail War is not the honors his family ordered him to win, but to accomplish a great deed by his own will and leave his name behind. He regains his memories during the story, but, realizing that he has already been defeated and can live only in the world behind the scenes, defects to BB's side, only to be discarded by Meltlilith.
Leonardo B. Harwey
Voiced by Romi Park.[12]
The heir of the Harwey family, which rules the world. He is dropped to the far side of the Moon during the main tournament. In the old school building he forms a "student council" including the protagonist and attempts to escape from the far side of the Moon.
His personality has softened considerably since the previous game. At first the protagonist suspects, because of the change, that he is a fake prepared by BB, but eventually speculates that the cause is Leo's own repressed wishes. He possesses a large amount of currency from the far side of the Moon, but if one borrows money from him he proposes the "Harwey toichi system", a lending method passed down in the Harwey family that charges 10 percent interest in ten days.
He possesses a formula called a Finality, "Sword Camelot". Because of the enormous magical energy consumption and difficulty of operation, even Leo can deploy it for only three minutes, but destroying it requires attack power on the level of a holy sword, and it can create a high-density wall of flame that blocks all magecraft, including teleportation.
Julius B. Harwey
Voiced by Wataru Hatano.
Leo's half-brother. Like Leo, he is dropped to the far side of the Moon and supports the student council. He is troubled by the behavior of Leo after his restraints are removed and by Gawain's excessive ingenuousness. He has no Servant.
After losing in the front-side Holy Grail War, he had become a ghost through obsession and was recovered by BB; when he regains his memories, he simultaneously joins BB's side. However, all of these actions are an act to search for the mastermind who must be behind her, and to save his only "friend" dropped into imaginary number space, he sacrifices himself while opening a path to the Servant.
Alice
Voiced by Ai Nonaka.
One of the Masters who participated in the Holy Grail War held in Extra. BB revives her together with Caster. Her personality is unchanged, and she abandons her task of guarding Passionlip. Later she and Caster both suffer a miserable fate at Meltlilith's hands.
Monji Gatou
Voiced by Kentarō Itō.[12]
A man who develops religious theories mixing various religions. He is dropped to the far side of the Moon and is separated from his Servant. In the student council, Leo appoints him cheer squad leader. He remains eccentric, but is considerate toward others and is caring, repeatedly visiting the shut-in Jinako, his former opponent, to deepen their friendship. When the protagonist asks about this change, he says that this time it is not a Holy Grail War in which everyone but himself is an enemy, and therefore he must value his connections with others. After regaining memories of his defeat and death, he abandons his obsession with spreading religion and finds the only enlightenment of his life, producing an answer that impresses even the King of Heroes.
In the main story he seems to remember something about Kiara but never manages to recall it; in fact, during his training he met her in the mountains of Japan. He defeated her in a Zen dialogue contest, but she erased his memory of this.
Twice H. Pieceman
Voiced by Hiroki Tōchi.
A person who was at the core of the Moon Cell in Extra. He encourages the despairing protagonist through a broken dream. As a hidden element, a Moon Cell reproduction of him and the fox-eared Caster appears in the state where they were contracted.
Jinako Carigiri
Voiced by Aoi Yūki.[13]
Height: 153 cm / Weight: 82 kg / Measurements: B109/W87/H112 / Blood type: B / Birthday: November 3.
A woman with severe internet addiction. She has a German father and Japanese mother. Although she has no outstanding talent, she had aptitude as a wizard and slipped into the spiritron virtual world. She is qualified as a Master but lacks the spirit to join the Holy Grail War and only thinks of hiding and riding out the situation. In the main tournament she had shut herself in a janitor's room obtained by hacking and escaped SE.RA.PH's surveillance, but in the records she is already treated as having lost by default and is trapped by the fate of disappearance. After realizing this again she becomes even more desperate, but it is later revealed that her Servant's Noble Phantasm is protecting her safety.
She is a game champion using the handle "Jinako" and is the person who keeps Shinji in the No. 2 position. According to her, she "levels up even while sleeping". After the deaths of her reasonably wealthy parents, she inherited their estate and, since graduating from junior high school, has neither continued schooling nor done anything except live as a shut-in in online communities. Her Servant is a slender Lancer, but she has him call his class "Launcher".
In FGO, she becomes a pseudo-Servant of the Moon Cancer class as the vessel of Ganesha; her personality is Jinako's.
Kiara Sessyoin
Voiced by Rie Tanaka.[14]
Height: 166 cm / Weight: 53 kg? / Measurements: B96/W58/H86 / Blood type: A / Birthday: June 4.
A beautiful woman in nun's clothing who appears in the protagonist's "dream" under the name Taiga Fujimura. Her true identity is one of the Masters who participated in the Holy Grail War. After falling to the far side of the Moon she shelters in the old school building but has given up on escaping by herself. Her name had appeared only by name in the previous game. The kanji of her given name can be written 祈荒.
Her background is that she is the last teacher of the Tachikawa school of Shingon esoteric Buddhism, said to have died out in the Edo period. She was an executive in a cult organization called the Shingon Tachikawa Eiten School, and because of a certain magecraft born from her desires she was internationally wanted by the Western European Plutocracy. Before participating in the Holy Grail War, under that doctrine she saved many sentient beings, was betrayed by those she saved, and even so continued to reach out to save humanity. Andersen calls her both "horrifying" and as having a "bodhisattva habit". Her wish for the Holy Grail is likewise to "save people", but she herself says that this wish satisfies her own desire and is a shameless desire. Her Servant is a blue-haired Caster.
The mastermind in CCC. She plots to seize the Moon Cell solely for her own pleasure and become a god. Her original personality regards other people as no different from insects and has no resistance to treating them as tools for her pleasure. At the same time, she has an abnormality beyond sanity in that she says she loves all humans. She believes that it would not matter if humanity perished as a result of pursuing her desires, and she has no hesitation about saving or destroying people for those desires. In the true route of CCC, she reveals her true nature and stands before the protagonist as a "demon" who has absorbed the souls of Masters on the far side of the Moon. Her dramatic role is the CCC version of "All the World's Evil (Angra Mainyu)". Unlike the artificial demon made by people, regardless of its own will, to "be all the evil in this world", her nature differs in that she "became that way to obtain pleasure for herself".
Her Noble Phantasm is "All the World's Desire (Angra Mainyu/CCC)". Having gained "omnipotent power" through the Moon Cell and transformed into an Earth Mother Goddess who receives all of humanity's desires, she uses the code cast "Ten Thousand Colors Stagnation" to invite people's souls into her body and create a vortex of pleasure numbering in the billions. This vortex melts intelligent beings and sublimates their "lives" in an instant. No matter how different their intellectual structure, this ability affects all intelligent beings without exception. Andersen calls it "the worst and lowest Noble Phantasm" and deliberately tells the protagonist's party about it before it is activated, although for a certain story reason this attack alone cannot cause defeat and functions as proportional damage.
In FGO, her history differs greatly, but after being synchronized with her version from this work for a certain reason, she transforms into the Beast of Humanity "Beast III/R". Later, the remnants are registered on the Throne of Heroes as an Alter Ego, but since she is merely hiding her true nature she can also return to Beast III/R.
In Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, she appears only by name as Kiara Kisshōin, the third-ranked "nun" of the Burial Agency. She has been demonized by a sabbat and appears to have acquired omnipotence in that dimension.
Kazuhito Sakagami
A young man appearing in FoxTail who resembles an old-fashioned male student in a gakuran and student cap. He appears on the seventh layer of the Sakura Labyrinth together with Saber. He rarely shows expression and has a somewhat easygoing personality, but is often pushed around by Saber's frivolous manner. Saber showers him with affection, but he receives it coldly.

Servants

Archer
Voiced by Kōsuke Toriumi.
A Servant who appeared in Extra. BB revives him, and he works secretly as her pawn while also, like Julius, independently investigating the incident's mastermind.
Caster
Voiced by Ai Nonaka.
A Servant who appeared in Extra. She is revived by BB together with her Master, Alice. She is used as BB's pawn, but does not obey at all, and ultimately she and Alice suffer a miserable fate at Meltlilith's hands.
Gawain
Voiced by Takahiro Mizushima.
A Servant who appeared in Extra. He is dropped to the far side of the Moon together with his Master Leo, but unlike other Servants has almost no restrictions. Compared with the previous game, like Leo he has become more human, and his natural airheadedness and fixation on younger women are revealed. He often speaks about King Arthur of the past and the Knights of the Round Table, and although he does so proudly, those around him often react awkwardly. He is the collector for the "Harwey toichi system", and if certain conditions are met the player fights him; during that battle, his words and actions often carry nuances of demanding debt repayment.
Lancer
Voiced by Rumi Ōkubo.[15]
Height: 154 cm / Weight: 44 kg / Measurements: B77/W56/H80 / Blood type: unknown / Birthday: May 17 / Alignment: chaotic evil (Lancer) / madness and rampage (Berserker).
Parameters (Lancer): Strength C / Endurance D / Agility A (E in the game) / Mana A / Luck B / Noble Phantasm D.
Parameters (Berserker): Strength A / Endurance A / Agility B / Mana D / Luck C / Noble Phantasm E-.
Skills (Lancer): Territory Creation B / Battle Continuation B / Dragon Breath E / Torture Technique A / Charisma C.
Skills (Berserker): Madness Enhancement E- / Mental Disorder A / Magic Resistance A / Innocent Monster A.
A Servant with dragon-like horns and tail who is skilled at close combat using a spear longer than her own height,[15] but can also attack at range through ultrasonic waves produced by her magical voice. She is extremely cruel and looks down on humans as tools for making herself beautiful, but she shows a certain courtesy to useful people and to those she likes. She also loves torture to an extreme degree, as seen when she slowly torments escaped NPCs to death and even prepares a torture room without telling her Master. After becoming a Heroic Spirit, she is deeply impressed by "idols" in later civilization, and traces of this appear in her words and actions; early on she at times calls her class "Idol" and calls her Master "Producer". Although she has a beautiful voice, she is profoundly tone-deaf.
She kills her Master because of a difference of opinion and cooperates with BB, changing Masters several times to Rin Tohsaka and Rani VIII. She fights the protagonist many times, but in the end is trapped in an ice wall made by Rin and sealed while screaming tragically.
Her true name is Elizabeth Báthory. She is a 16th-century Hungarian noblewoman and serial killer known as the "Blood Countess" and a model for vampire legends. For the most part she has the tastes, preferences, and personality attributed to her in history, and gleefully commits atrocities said to have been practiced by her historically, such as bathing in blood and torture. Her dragon horns and tail are caused by demonization through "Innocent Monster", as with the Lancer in bloody armor. Whereas the Lancer in bloody armor had her nature twisted by later fiction, in her case the image created by her actions in life had an effect.
Her Noble Phantasm is "Kírenc Sárkány". It converts into a Noble Phantasm the majesty of the weather-spirit and thunder dragon that is also the emblem of the Báthory family, and calls wind and rain through resonance by amplifying sound and vibration. In addition to attacks, the functions of this Noble Phantasm are broad and diverse, including the majesty and charisma contained in its owner's voice, healing waves, malice that breaks the heart merely by being heard, and amplification of vocal volume by nine times nine.
Later, for a certain reason she changes class to Berserker, and her skills and Noble Phantasm also change. In this state she is mad, but the level is E-, the lowest, and because most of her reason remains, her appearance does not change and she receives little benefit from Madness Enhancement. She herself cites her mental disorder as the reason that her madness level is low. Separate from madness, she has the traits of not feeling others' pain and being unable to read the room. Dragonized by Innocent Monster, her lungs themselves become an otherworld and she gains tremendous lung capacity. The voice released from those lungs is the strongest weapon that uses each dragon's attribute, her own "dragon breath". The change in her appearance to a dragon form is due to Innocent Monster, but separately from that change, without even realizing it herself, she actually has dragon blood mixed into her and possesses very strong Magic Resistance. Her Noble Phantasm is "Báthory Erzsébet". She summons her lifelong castle, Čachtice Prison Castle, as a stage that enhances an idol. The castle itself has been remodeled into a giant amplifier and boosts her dragon breath.
Although she is a born abnormality who feels no guilt about killing people, she has also received proper aristocratic education, so her ideas about purity are innocent and pure, and she has a side as a girl who longs for romance.
Toward the protagonist in particular, after fighting many times from the beginning, she comes to regard the protagonist's mentally grown state after escaping from imaginary number space as an ideal image and becomes fond of the protagonist. When she makes food in an attempt to be liked, the taste is so bad that the protagonist writhes in agony, but because the nutrition is good, the protagonist becomes healthy the next day. In the latter half of the story, she temporarily forms a contract with the protagonist to release the Servant's mythological formal wear.
Carmilla, who appears in Fate/Grand Order, is her grown form, and other variations appear in Halloween events, including a Caster, a Saber, and the Alter Ego Mecha Eli-chan modeled on her.
Karna
Voiced by Kōji Yusa.[16]
Height: 178 cm / Weight: 75 kg / Blood type: unknown / Birthday: unknown / Alignment: neutral good.
Parameters: Strength B / Endurance A / Agility A / Mana B / Luck A+ / Noble Phantasm A++.
Skills: Magic Resistance C / Riding B / Divinity A / Uncrowned Martial Arts - / Discernment of the Poor -.
Jinako Carigiri's Servant. Because his words and actions are straightforward and without lies, he often coldly strikes at the truth. His original class is Lancer, but because he has skills equivalent to beams, at his Master's request he calls himself "Launcher". Also, because Jinako called him by his true name from the beginning, his class was initially not revealed.
His first appearance in the Fate series was in Fate/Apocrypha, and his character design follows that version.[16] He is a hero on the same level as Gilgamesh, but because his Master Jinako is so lacking in ability as a magus that she cannot properly use Command Spells, he cannot fully display his power, and because of the difference between Masters his firepower does not even reach Gawain's. His armor has also been lost for personal reasons, greatly weakening his performance. His Luck parameter is self-reported.
His true name is Karna. He is a great hero of Indian mythology and the son of the sun god Surya. Because he later becomes one with Surya, he has the highest class of Divinity and displays very high defensive power against Heroic Spirits of solar gods with lower Divinity than his own. His Noble Phantasm "Vasavi Shakti" was originally a thunder spear given by the king of the gods Indra. Incidentally, because no tradition records this spear being used, the original Noble Phantasm to which it corresponds is unknown, and it is a Noble Phantasm that cannot be taken from Gilgamesh's treasury because it cannot be found.
In addition, he possesses the anti-army/anti-country Noble Phantasm "Brahmastra" and the anti-country Noble Phantasm "Brahmastra Kundala".
As a Servant, his principle is to serve the Master who summoned him, and he does not disobey regardless of doubts about an order. These actions are based on his recognition that all humans, including himself, are equal in value. As befits his character as the "Hero of Charity", he rarely refuses another's request as long as it is reasonable, and he shows consideration for the protagonist and Gatou, who worry about Jinako. He also has a somewhat airheaded side.
His lost golden armor, "Kavacha and Kundala", is an extraordinary Noble Phantasm absent even from Gilgamesh's treasury. In particular, because it is armor that emits the radiance of the sun, and because of the principle that "the Moon shines by the blessings of the sun", even the Moon Cell, which is the Moon itself, cannot interfere with it. Karna gave that armor to Jinako during the front-side Holy Grail War to save her from her destined death after she forfeited the match.
Caster
Voiced by Takehito Koyasu.[17]
Height: 146 cm / Weight: 39 kg / Blood type: unknown / Birthday: unknown / Alignment: neutral balanced.
Parameters: Strength E / Endurance E / Agility E / Mana EX / Luck E / Noble Phantasm C.
Skills: Human Observation A / High-Speed Incantation E / Innocent Monster D / Item Construction C.
A Servant with the appearance of a blue short-haired boy.[17] In contrast to that appearance, he speaks in an aged voice and has a fairly warped personality.[17] He basically takes a thorny attitude toward others, but is good at criticizing people and giving advice.[17] He is sharp-tongued even toward his Master Kiara Sessyoin, insists that he is useless in battle, and declares that he hates physical labor above all, while not exactly liking intellectual labor either. He provides information to the protagonists because "it will make good material", and he also gives his own form of scolding and encouragement to the protagonist and Servants.
His true name is Hans C. Andersen. Counted as one of the world's three great writers of fairy tales, he is an author who left many tragedies. Servants appear in the prime of the myths and anecdotes on which they are based, but in his case he materializes in a form younger than when he became famous as a writer. According to him, this is because "when I was a brat I was at my most sensitive". As a Servant, his body is also corroded by the skill Innocent Monster, which consists of readers of his books assuming that "the author must be this kind of person", leaving mermaid scales and burn marks on his skin. His heart also seems to be corroded by the assumption that he is a demon who likes bad endings, but he dismisses these effects as "the price of fame". He has no combat ability and uses the Noble Phantasm "Märchen Meines Lebens", which changes the target according to the contents he writes, to increase his Master's fighting power.
In an FGO event, he appears as an NPC in a grown adult form.
Saber
Voiced by Nao Tōyama in Fate/Grand Order.
Height: 164 cm / Weight: 51 kg / Blood type: unknown / Birthday: unknown / Alignment: neutral evil.
A Servant of Kazuhito Sakagami who appears in FoxTail. She wears clothing resembling a modern school uniform arrangement of shirabyōshi costume and has animal ears and a tail. She also carries a school bag with pin badges and straps, and her words and appearance are those of a so-called "high school girl". She calls Kazuhito "Kazu-kun", declares herself his girlfriend, and adores him greatly. She displays a hostility toward Caster, who claims to be Hakuno's wife, that resembles mutual antipathy among similar kinds, and her first two Secret Gardens are exactly the same as Caster's. Her weapon is a single Japanese sword, but separately she can newly manifest two floating Japanese swords. Early in the story, she had been eliminating Masters and NPCs who had fallen into the Sakura Labyrinth under BB's orders.[note 1] She is also the third guard of the Sakura Labyrinth.
Her true name is Suzuka Gozen. She is a dancer said to have carried out many oni exterminations together with Sakanoue no Tamuramaro. She has three Noble Phantasms: "Love Shot, Heavenly Oni Rain", which manifests countless Ōdōren and literally rains blades down; "Blessing of Wisdom", which improves intellect through Shōdōren; and "Trichiliocosm", which sees through all worlds by exposing Kenmyōren to the morning sun.

NPCs and AIs

Sakura Matou
Voiced by Noriko Shitaya.[18]
The AI who managed Masters' health in Extra. In this game she not only maintains the old school building where the protagonists stay, but also backs up the protagonist when they explore the labyrinth.
In the previous game, like other NPCs, she gave an inorganic impression, but in this game she shows many expressions indistinguishable from a human, such as smiling happily when treated kindly and crying when hearing the protagonist's resolve. She grasps the protagonist's actions almost completely and even warns the protagonist to restrain frivolity at important moments.
If something happens to Sakura, another higher AI named Caren is supposed to take over health management, but Sakura herself views as a problem Caren's personality of prioritizing trials over a Master's survival.
Kirei Kotomine
Voiced by Jōji Nakata.
The AI who served as the Holy Grail War's master of ceremonies in Extra. Like the other NPCs, he is dropped to the far side of the Moon, but BB alters his role and makes him a shop clerk. He is unexpectedly enthusiastic, displaying commercial spirit by charging outrageous exchange rates that reduce Leo's money to one-hundredth. If the player's Servant is Gilgamesh, his behavior at the shop changes, and his clothing design is changed to one closer to the original work.
Taiga Fujimura
The AI who was the protagonist's homeroom teacher in Extra. Like the other NPCs, she is dropped to the far side and issues "Tiger Quests", asking the protagonist for necessary items as she attempts to escape.
5-10
One of the NPCs left behind in the old school building; he resembles Gai Gotō from Fate/stay night.
His hobby is imitation, and his speaking style changes depending on the period. He seemed to worry about Jinako, who was shut in the janitor's room, but as BB's invasion progresses he disappears.
Public morals committee chair
One of the higher AIs, with authority even above Sakura Matō. She is a bespectacled woman.
She appears to control public morals in SE.RA.PH, but often makes negative remarks about the human participants. She is drawn into the old school building and acts together with other NPCs, but when the protagonists begin to act against BB she is erased as a warning.

BB's camp

BB
Voiced by Noriko Shitaya.[19]
A mysterious girl who closely resembles Sakura Matō. She appears before the protagonist as the mastermind who has occupied the far side of the Moon and altered the Sakura Labyrinth. She calls herself "BB-chan" and behaves like a mischievous kouhai, but she has acquired the Moon Cell's authority and possesses enormous power.
She was originally a health-management AI split from Sakura Matō, but after a certain incident her personality and purpose changed. She tries to save the protagonist in her own way, but her methods are warped and endanger the world. She creates the Sakura Labyrinth, deploys Sentinels and Alter Egos, and repeatedly interferes with the protagonist's group.
Her name is derived from "black blossom", "bottom black", and similar associations, though in the story it is treated as a name with multiple possible meanings. In FGO, she appears as a Moon Cancer-class Servant and has a major role in events derived from CCC.
Passionlip
Voiced by Yui Ogura.[17]
An Alter Ego created by BB as one of the Sakura Five. She has enormous claw-like arms and a gentle but unstable personality. She is assigned to guard the Sakura Labyrinth and fights the protagonist's party.
Her abilities include "Trash & Crash", which crushes things she touches and compresses them into trash-like data, and her body combines aspects of several goddesses. She deeply desires affection and recognition, but her perception of distance and danger is distorted, making her love dangerous to others. In FoxTail, because more of the Sakura Five are used, her role differs in some respects from the game.
Meltlilith
Voiced by Saori Hayami.[17]
An Alter Ego created by BB as one of the Sakura Five. She has a dancer-like figure with blade-like legs, a proud personality, and strong attachment to the protagonist. She appears as a major enemy in the Sakura Labyrinth.
Her abilities include melting and absorbing others, and she is associated with the skill "Melt Virus". She regards herself as superior and has a cruel streak, but her feelings toward the protagonist become important in later related works. In FGO, she appears as an Alter Ego-class Servant in the CCC collaboration event.
Violet
A member of the Sakura Five who did not appear in the original game and appears in FoxTail. She has a composed personality and uses a whip-like weapon. She combines traits derived from goddesses and functions as one of BB's forces in the Sakura Labyrinth.
Kazuradrop
A member of the Sakura Five who did not appear in the original game and appears in FoxTail. She has a childlike appearance and personality but is highly dangerous. Her abilities and the truth of her role become important in the manga's original development.
Kingprotea
A member of the Sakura Five who did not appear in the original game and appears in FoxTail. She is characterized by giant size and overwhelming scale. In FGO, she appears as an Alter Ego-class Servant.

Fate/Extra CCC FoxTail

Fate/Extra CCC FoxTail (フェイト/エクストラ CCC FoxTail) is a manga series based on an original concept by TYPE-MOON and illustrated by Takenoko Seijin. It has been serialized in Comp Ace since the December 2013 issue. The collected volumes are published by Kadokawa under the Kadokawa Comics Ace imprint.

The series was originally announced under the provisional title Fate/Extra Yōkoden. When the first chapter was published, it appeared under the title Fate/Extra Mikōn! Cas-ko-chan!? as part of an effort to mislead readers into thinking it was a school-parody manga. Beginning with the second chapter, serialization continued under its current title. While based on CCC, the story is an original scenario incorporating unused concepts and elements later seen in Fate/Grand Order.[20] The protagonist is male and his Servant is Caster.[20]

Production (FoxTail)

Takenoko Seijin first became involved with the Fate series through Koi Suru Otome, included in the Fate/Prototype Tribute Phantasm anthology. Takashi Takeuchi felt from that work that Takenoko Seijin excelled at action scenes, and after consulting with the editorial staff decided that he should create a work starring Caster that would differ from a straightforward manga adaptation.[5]

Takenoko Seijin himself had wanted to create an action-oriented manga and later recalled in a discussion with Takeuchi that he was excited when he received the offer.[5]

At that point the game had not yet been released, and the manga was planned as an Extra side story focused on Caster. It was expected to run only one or two tankōbon volumes.[5] About six months before the game's release, Kinoko Nasu introduced the concept of the Sakura Five, resulting in FoxTail being repositioned as a subsidiary route of CCC.[5] Nasu also presented the rough outline of the story to the staff during this period.[5] The original plan for the game included five Alter Egos as the Sakura Five, but only Passionlip and Meltlilith appeared in the released game. FoxTail was developed in part to make use of those unused elements.[5] Takenoko Seijin and Takashi Takeuchi discussed the work in a commemorative roundtable for the second volume, explaining the relationship between the manga and unused ideas from the game.[5]

The idea of making the Saber opposing Caster into Suzuka Gozen originated with Takenoko Seijin.[20] To pair her with Caster, several design elements similar to Caster's were incorporated, with Takeuchi comparing the design relationship to Atom and Atlas in Astro Boy.[5] Suzuka was initially designed as a gentle-looking character resembling Arcueid from Tsukihime,[5] but the staff felt the design lacked individuality and did not fit the Fate setting.[20] Nasu later requested that her facial features be made sharper,[5] while Takeuchi suggested making her a high-school girl.[20] Takenoko Seijin later stated that these suggestions were extremely helpful.[20] Writer Ryō Morise, who assists TYPE-MOON with historical research and setting analysis for the Fate series, also contributed to the development of Suzuka Gozen's background.[20]

Takenoko Seijin stated in an interview that he approached the battle scenes through trial and error.[20] One sequence he particularly struggled with was the volume 2 chapter featuring Suzuka Gozen, Meltlilith, and Passionlip together.[20] Because Meltlilith and Passionlip had already appeared in Fate/Extra CCC, the scene was originally intended to be brief, but encouragement from editor Fujiwara led to a larger battle sequence than initially planned.[20]

Presentation

The manga is positioned as a subsidiary route of the original CCC storyline, while also being designed so that readers who have not played either Fate/Extra or Fate/Extra CCC can still enjoy it.[20][5]

Reflecting Caster's characterization as an intelligent strategist, the series places particular emphasis on tactical maneuvering during battles.[20] Combat scenes are presented as Takenoko Seijin's visual interpretation of Fate/Extra CCC's battle system, and some scenes also draw inspiration from Fate/Grand Order.[20] .
