Ryan Singh was born in Guyana, South America on May 11, 1977. He started his entertainment career when he was only 6 years old. He performed poetry in national competitions before being cast in local plays that toured throughout the country. When he came to Canada, Ryan went to school to further develop his studies while doing some stage productions.

In 2000, Ryan graduated from film school where he honed his skills as an actor, director and producer. He formed his company Ryan Singh Enterprises in 2001, a for-profit multifaceted production company, producing stage plays, short films, commercials, corporate videos, documentaries, music videos and feature films. He would modify his stage name from Ryan Singh to Nigel Ryan, acting in such films as Faisal Lutchmedial’s Mr. Crab which was a top 9 Canadian finalist for CBC’s Short film Faceoff and the Sydney Furie directed Conduct Unbecoming. He continues to produce and direct under the moniker Ryan Singh.

In 2006, Ryan formed the not-for-profit organization Roots International Arts Theatre, Inc through which more than 8 productions were produced in Canada and Guyana. Through Roots Theatre he also sponsored several workshops over the years including the notable Tom Todoroff Workshop, and Talent Unleashed.

As a director, Ryan has worked with such projects as Curse of Ham, Sweet Sweet Karaila, and Sex, Relationships and Sometimes...Love for stage. In addition, Ryan directed for Obya Entertainment the talk show pilot All Out and web series pilot Unharnessed. Unharnessed received an O’Brian Award nomination for Outstanding Broadcast. He also was a co-director for the short film I Rasta which was nominated for Best Short Film at the Reggae Film Festival in Jamaica. Ryan’s personal and intimate autobiographical documentary, MOM, won Best Short Documentary at the 2013 Caribbean Tales International Film Festival.

As a producer, Ryan is an integral player within the Canadian independent film and TV arenas working with such organizations as Reelworld Film Festival, Caribbean Tales, Scarlett Media while consulting for a wider film market across Canada, the US and the Caribbean. He was an executive producer for Rasta – A Soul’s Journey, featuring Bob Marley’s granddaughter Donisha Prendergast.

As a coach and facilitator, Ryan has worked with such actors as Eli Goree (Da Kink in my Hair, Soul), Beverley Ellis (222, Forensic Factor), Darren Anthony (Secrets of a Black Boy), Ngozi Paul (Da Kink in my Hair), Chantel Quibell and many others.
