About Netjeff

I live in the Denver area (but used to live in the Seattle area).

I've visited 40 of the 50 States, and visited 14 countries.

My site.

Cool Wikipedia Stuff

If you use Wikipedia a lot, try enabling Navigation popups. It's a more interactive & detailed version than the built-in Page Previews and Reference Tooltips.

For news on Wikipedia itself, read the Wikipedia Signpost.

I've tweaked my user css ("Vector" style):

  • Make links less noticeable. My style removes the text color, and use light dotted underlines. This make it easier to read the page without getting distracted by every (colorized) link, while still knowing what is linked with the light dotted underline. This follows light-mode vs dark-mode.
  • Hide the per-section "edit" links until you hover the pointer over the section heading.
  • I also tweaked the mobile user css (minerva style) the same way.

Today's Featured Article stuff

Here's a convenient link that gives you a page with only Today's Featured Article.

This is the same content that appears on the Main Page, and also via the WP:TOFA "special page". But the link above doesn't have all the "extra" stuff found on the Main Page and WP:TOFA

I did this by taking advantage of Wikipedia's transclusion capability.

My main contributions

Below are the articles to which I've contributed the most:

My plans ...

  • (paused) Reorganize citations on SR-71 page, to take advantage of template {{harvp}}, and related
  • (todo) Update Ivy Mike page, change cites with inline page numbers to use {{harvp}}, similar to SR-71 page
  • (todo) Pay attention to the Sub-referencing feature that is underway, to replace use of things like {{harvp}}
  • (todo) Use {{Inflation|UK-GDP}} on Thames Tunnel
  • (todo) Propose deletion of JSON-WSP: The article was started by user Jakobsg (talk · contribs). They started in Feb 2011 and wrote the bulk of the article as edits over next 6 months through Aug 2011. Jakobsg made one small edit in 2012, and two small edits in 2013. Since then no edits. The primary ref/source for the article appears to be a personal project, which is no longer accessible, not even via wayback machine. Jakobsg's creation/edits in 2011 included "RFC is currently being proposed", but I could not find any still-accessible pages with an RFC proposal.
