Neil D MacLean is a Canadian author and retired Correctional Manager with the Correctional Service of Canada.

In The Beginning

Born in West Vancouver to wonderful parents, Iris and Jack MacLean, Neil never went without as a child. Like most young kids, Neil was eager to spread his wings and experience life’s adventures. At the age of 19, he was ready to cast off the chains of doting parents and set out on his own, to discover new adventures.

Before joining corrections, Neil embarked on a seven-year broadcasting career. Working in small, medium and large broadcast markets. While those radio days gave birth to a life time of memories, the money made living tough. MacLean would hang up his mike, joining the Correctional Service of Canada 1988-2014.

Late in Life Writer

Retired in 2014, Neil MacLean has explored writing as a way to deal with his PTSD.

Beyond The Gates of Hell-The Untold Stories 2020.

SERVING LIFE 25 – ONE GUARD’S STORY details the history of the Correctional Service of Canada and various prisons throughout British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. It provides a rare peek behind the curtain into an Oz-like environment of the dark and secretive world of Canada’s federal prison system.

Suspend your preconceived notions of prison life and be prepared to visit what he calls ground zero of a troubled system.

MacLean shares his experience of working behind the walls and fences of several federal prisons in British Columbia, Canada.

When he is not writing, he and his wife Joyce, travel in their motorhome and cruise on their Harley Davidson trike.

The couple live in the Resort Community of Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia. The quaint, little village, with a population of 1,500, attracts thousands of travellers from around the world who clammer to enjoy the beaches and cold water lake.

Life is good.
