Como is a global app-creation platform company that provides a do-it-yourself platform for businesses to design and create their own applications.[4] The platform is capable of creating apps for iPhones, iPads,Android phones and tablets, and the Amazon Kindle Fire.[5] Como is attributed as the first company to offer industry-specific DIY templates in an app creation platform.[4][6] Como has offices in both New York City and Israel and was voted one of the 14 Best App Makers of 2014 by Business News Daily.[7][8]

History

Como was founded in 2010 launching its app creation platform during a time when DIY app creation was in its infancy.[9] Como was originally part of Conduit's mobile business unit but was launched as a separate company with the release of its Como Console app creation platform.[10]

In June 2014, Como entered into a partnership with Booker, a New York City based software company that develops, markets, and supports cloud-based management systems for service oriented businesses.[11] The partnership allowed existing Booker clients to automatically generate mobile applications with Como's platform by using their existing Booker profiles.[11] As of September 2014, Como has been used to build more than one million mobile applications at a rate of approximately 4,500 new apps per day.[9][5] It was also listed as one of the biggest Facebook advertisers in 2014 according to Bloomberg Businessweek[3] and has offices in both New York City and Tel Aviv, Israel.[12]

Products and services

Como's platform, known as the Como Console, is an app creation platform.[5] It is a DIY platform and allows companies the ability to create apps specific to their industry, including music, events, restaurants, education, photography, and blogging.[4] An example of industry specific features includes the ability of restaurants to allow customers to book a table using its app through other apps such as OpenTable and Urbanspoon, create and customize menus, and allow for takeout ordering through its app.[9] The platform was also updated in 2014 to include in-app mobile payments and online ordering.[6]

Como provides app distribution and management services for companies in addition to DIY app creation.[7] Paid pricing for creating an app with the platform includes the submission of the app to the Apple, Android, and Amazon app stores.[6] Its app marketing services include app promotion both online and offline, including advertising campaigns on Facebook, in-store promotions, and print materials.[7]

Awards and recognition

Como was given a BestinBiz award in 2013[13] and was voted one of the 14 Best App Makers of 2014 by Business News Daily.[7]
