Miranda Ward was born in the UK in 1946, the first born of a serving officer of the Royal Marines and his wife., Jean Levelis Vosper Vosper.
She first came to some prominence as a columnist and journalist in the 60's on what was known as 'Pop Music' and evolved into Rock and Roll. By 1967 she had a full double page spread column in 'Top Pops' as well as being the contributing columnist 'Our Gal In London' for the American publication 'Hit Parader' part of the Charlton Publishing Group in NYC.
She took the name of Ward on joining Equity in 1963, it was her paternal Grandmother's maiden name, an Irish woman from Co. Cork. Whilst both her parents were born on the Indian Continent, her maternal grandfather was a doctor employed by the CMS (Church Missionary Society) and her paternal grandfather, born in Japan, served in the Indian Army, her family roots can be traced back to the mid 1000's on her father's side in Yorkshire and her mother's side had distinct Celtic roots in Cornish/West Country connections.
She suffered very severe burns as a baby, in a way never fully explained, and was subsequently in and out of hospital for treatment in her early years which finally tapered off by her mid teens. a critical early stage her father flatly refused to sign the consent for partial amputation of her right arm despite the scepticemia and subsequent blood poisoning. Her mother had to guarantee that no major surgical operations would be scheduled during term time whilst at her last school (St. Paul's Girls School), her 10th educational establishment. As a direct result of her many hospital stays for both skin grafts and then plastic surgery, she was not left in the UK at boarding school when her father was stationed abroad, as was the custom, but traveled with her parents and younger brother, Richard.
To be continued . . . it is in the making! Not even sure if anyone will see this yet anyway!
