Matthew Russell St. John is the senior pastor of Scofield Memorial Church in Dallas, Texas, an evangelical Bible church. Born on February 19, 1969, in Memphis, Tennessee, St. John was reared across the state in Knoxville.
A graduate of King College (BA in Bible and Religion, 1991) in Bristol, Tennessee, and of Dallas Theological Seminary (ThM in Pastoral Leadership, 1995) in Dallas, Texas, St. John spent several years as the pastor of Heaston Community Church in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. While at Heaston Community Church St. John established himself as having a life mission geared to help people from all walks of life embrace Jesus Christ as Savior, know Jesus Christ deeply, and represent Jesus Christ in their respective realms of influence.
Along with his pastoral responsibilities, St. John has written articles for Kindred Spirit magazine and the theological journal Bibliotheca Sacra. He is also published in Vital Church Issues: Examining Principles and Practices in Church Leadership.
When he became Scofield Memorial Church’s senior pastor in 2002, St. John stepped into a responsibility shared by some special predecessors, including the likes of Cyrus Scofield and Lewis Sperry Chafer. As such, St. John is committed to building on Scofield Memorial Church's rich heritage by empowering current and future generations to honor and promote the reputation of the Lord Jesus Christ.
St. John and his wife, the former Christa Lauren Roberson of Pound, Virginia, have two daughters and live in Dallas.
