The Suggestibles

The Suggestibles is an improvised comedy group based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. They have a large and loyal following who have been going wild for their adrenaline fuelled Friday night gigs at the Cumberland Arms, where they have been resident since February 2004, and more theatrical spectacles at Northern Stage, the Theatre Royal and the London Globe.

As their name suggests, they take live audience suggestions to spark sketches, songs, ridiculous plays and else that pops into their anything energetic minds. Their explosive and hilarious off-the-wall style, full of risk-taking ideas and spontaneous content, is often shocking and surreal. Their close bond is manifest in their great chemistry.

Since their formation the core team has been Ian McLaughlin, Bev Fox, Carl Kennedy and Gary Kitching. Chris Price joined the group in 2005, though plays sporadically as he’s a touring actor. Mark Labrow, an original member of the group left in 2008, but still occasionally plays. Their regular musical accompanist is John Lewis, and sometimes Ben Gilbert, Steve Luck and Richard Chance, an original member who lives away from the region now. Guest performers include Niall Ashdown, Kevin Tomlinson, Lisa McGrillis, Rob Atkinson, Paula Penman, Vicky Elliott and Laura Norton.

Firmly established as North East’s top comedy group, the Suggestibles are pioneers of the region’s improv scene, and have their own base, Magic If Studios, where they create their shows, films and projects. They have made several award winning short films and high-hitting videos for the internet.
