The Article Creation Bootcamp is a voluntary training course for users who want help with creating new articles. The course is run with a limited number of enrollments at set times throughout the year to give each entrant the advantage of close contact with a small group of instructors and other trainees.

Course material

  1. Subject selection
    Why does one thing make for a better article subject than another. When is it better to edit an existing article. (WP:N)
  2. Information gathering
    What basic info should any article have? Where do I get information? (WP:RS)
  3. Article writing
    Why you should start a new article in your userspace and how to avoid immediate deletion.
    What is the tone you should be using? How to structure your writing. (Wikipedia:Summary style, WP:NPOV, WP:JARGON)
    A word on copyright.
  4. Article layout
    Bolding, subheadings, infoboxes and other templates.
    How to format references and external links (WP:FOOT, WP:CITET)
  5. Making it look and sound nice.
    Images, infoboxes, videos, animations and soundfiles (spoken articles and pronunciations).
  6. Aiming for the bigtime
    How to get an article to become a good article or featured article.
