American Kang Duk Won Karate traces its roots back to one of the earliest schools of tae kwon do (Kang Duk Won was established by Park Chul Hee). Its ancient roots go back to a central Chinese boxing style (chu'an fa) and have evolved through the centuries to include the influences of several of the most notable Japanese, Okinawan, and Korean masters of recorded martial arts history. The journey the school has travelled, and its current status as one of the oldest and largest traditional American Martial Arts school on the East Coast of the USA, is due primarily to the dedication of Master Instructor Robert C. Lawlor.
This history was compiled through two and half years of research, interviews, phone calls, and reviews of original documents which related directly to American Kang Duk Won Karate's heritage and background. Dozens of anecdotes were discovered through countless sources and may be presented at a future date. To the many authors and martial artists who offered leads and facts, the gratitude of the American Kang Duk Won Karate instructors and students is extended!
