Zhang He was a Chinese Muslim voyager, admiral, and expert sailor. He made nautical discoveries and explorations for China that changed how we sail,trade, and explore today. Zhang He put China on the map as a navally industrially savvy country, and his years of explorations made discoveries priceless to sailing and technological advances and inventions around the world today.
Zhang He was admiral of the Chinese fleet. His discoveries changed the way China brought naval and geographical technology into life. He conducted multiple expeditions that totaled around thirty thousand miles traveled over sea. His first fleet alone consisted of almost 30,000 men and over 300 ships. The size of this fleet was as if moving around a stadium full of people on sea. Zhang’s seven expeditions were later to be known as the “Treasure Ship Voyages.” WHat did he accomplish by these voyages? Well, he accomplished many things. As he was a close advisor to the Chinese prince, Zhu Di, ZHang’s voyages not only benefited his image as an admiral, but the geographical, cartographical, and economical wealth of China. He made many scientific discoveries, as well as searching for resources such as minerals, gems, and organisms. Zhang fleets would carry newly discovered animals such as giraffes, zebras, and ostriches.
Zhang He’s voyages have made connections between China and places far away like parts of the Middle East and Africa. Zhang He was a man who accomplished many things, in the name of his country, Islam, and discoveries for humankind.
