About me

I'm a graduate student in physics in Germany. My particular interest is biophysics and structural biology, which made me starting my doctoral thesis work in the field of solid-state NMR spectroscopy. What keeps me going if I have a bad day at work (which luckily doesn't happen too often) is the beauty of life at a molecular level, 'cause that's what we're trying to understand. Check out the Protein Data Bank if you don't know what I mean.

Feel free contacting me by email, but you have to google for the address yourself, given the information above :-)

A statement on teaching science

I'm convinced that everyone can understand science, it's just a question of how to teach / explain it (You know: "You do physics? Oh, I was always bad in physics..."). One cornerstone of good scientific teaching / explaining is the ability of reducing a possibly complex problem to a level of simplification that matches the student's level of understanding. This may sound trivial, but experience tells me that it's not. Another cornerstone is to approach a scientific problem from an everydays life experience, and use all your senses (there's more than seeing the letters written on a chalkboard!) to grasp a physical phaenomenon. This is why I'm a fan of "science centers". One of the most famous ones is certainly the Exploratorium, but they exists everywhere aroud the world (check out http://www.phaenomenta.de if you happen to be in Germany.
