Juan Carlos Soto is a a Vice-President of Software at Sun Microsystems where he leads several global engineering organizations. He previously served as the acting SW-CTO for Sun. He was an early member of Project JXTA (Open Source Peer to Peer) and jxta.org's first Community Manager. He was also instrumental in the commercialization of Java on small devices. While at Hewlett-Packard, he was a member of the team that created the innovative HP 16500 Logic Analysis System and later was the creator of NetServer Navigator which was recognized by PC Computing Magazine in 1995 for dramatically improving the ease-of-use of PC Servers.

Juan Carlos Soto studied hardware and software engineering at the University of Florida where he received a BS in Engineering. He also has Master of Science Degrees in Computer Science and Engineering Management from the University of Colorado and Stanford University, respectively.
