Joseph M. Getty (born April 14, 1952) is a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates, former Policy and Legislative Director for Governor Robert Ehrlich, and current candidate for Maryland State Senate, District 5.

Background Joe Getty was born in Olney, Maryland, and raised in Carroll County, Maryland. He received a B.A. in American Studies from Washington College in 1974, an M.A. in American Civilization from George Washington University in 1980, and a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1996. He was admitted to the practice of law by the Maryland Court of Appeals in 1996. Career Joe Getty worked for the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the Washington D.C. Mid-Atlantic Regional office from 1978-1982.

He then served as the Executive Director of the Historical Society of Carroll County from 1987-1994.

Getty was elected as a Republican member of the Maryland House of Delegates in 1994 where he served for eight years from 1995-2003. He was a representative from Legislative District 5A (Carroll County). He served as a member of the Commerce and Governmental Matters Committee from 1995-1998. In 1999 he became a member of the House Judiciary Committee where he served until 2003.

Joe Getty also served on the Carroll County Republican Central Committee from 1985-92 and 2002-03. He served as Chair of the committee from 1991-1992 and again from 2002-2003.

Getty was appointed Policy and Legislative Director for Governor Robert Ehrlich from 2004-2007.

Publications Joe Getty has published books including, Uniontown, Maryland: A Walking Tour (1983), Carroll's Heritage: Essays on the Architecture of a Piedmont County (1987), and The Engine of Liberty and Uniontown Advertiser (1993). He was also the producer of a WTTR Radio weekly program entitled History Notes and Events from 1987-1994. In addition, Getty produced a television series The History of Carroll County on Prestige Cablevision from 1988-1994.
