Jim Richmann is a Research Staff Member at the Institute for Defense Analyses where his research interests are in high performance computing (HPC), microelectronics and cyber warfare. Prior to joining IDA, Jim was Principal Semiconductor Architect at Intel® Corporation with responsibilities for defining Intel’s roadmap for microprocessors used for HPC applications. In 2010 Jim led a team of engineers to completion of a quantitative assessment of HPC workload scalability that drove Intel’s 2016 multi-core processor design decisions. In 2009, Jim co-chaired the Department of Homeland Security/National Security Agency blue ribbon commission on information security and cyber warfare. In addition to 20+ years in technology management in the federal government and ten years at Intel, Jim spent ten years on Wall Street as Chief Technology Officer of the NASDAQ Stock Market. He has an MS in Industrial Engineering from the US Naval Postgraduate School and a BS in Physics from Iowa State University.
