Danielle Heinecke - Australian diplomat

Danielle Heinecke is an Australian public servant and diplomat, currently High Commissioner to Malaysia since December 2023. Ms Heinecke has served in a range of senior roles for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). She was most recently First Assistant Secretary of Pacific Melanesia Division in 2023. Prior, Ms Heinecke served as First Assistant Secretary (Economic and Development Division) at the Office of the Pacific from 2019 to 2023, leading on: Pacific labour integration; economics and trade; regional connectivity; education; development assistance to Pacific Island states; operations and staffing matters.

Between 2017 and 2019, she was Assistant Secretary of the Aid Contracting and Management Branch and Director of the Philippines section from 2016 to 2017. She headed Australia's water and sanitation aid programs within the Government of Timor-Leste (2014 to 2016) and led the Australian Government’s response to the high level Aid Review in 2011.

Ms Heinecke is a career diplomat and official, having joined the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) in 2000. Her earlier positions in AusAID include Director of the Fiji and Vanuatu section, postings in Jakarta (counsellor) and Port Moresby, and as a member of the post-conflict civilian Peace Monitoring Group in Bougainville. Prior to government, Ms Heinecke worked at Price Waterhouse Coopers in business restructuring (Sydney).

Ms Heinecke holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales, a Masters of Arts (International Relations) from the Australian National University, and a Masters of Economics from the University of New England.
