Hi, I'm a small boat enthusiast who is trying to get the basic facts about the boats I know about into Wikipedia. In general I'm finding this to be a frustrating task as things I know to be true, but are not on the internet, because there was no internet in the 1800's get marked for cite this, or cite that. Then they are erased by someone who does no fact checking of their own. So I've largely given up on wikipedia. Instead I'm working on my own web pages, and rely on a link from wikipedia to that set of pages for reference for anyone who cares to really know about boats. (And Google search which will find everything for you, if you know but what to ask.)
On occasion I will spend some dull moments of the day whacking vandalism, and the self promotion junk that the great masses keep trying to add to wikipedia. Just watch the latest changes page to see what I am talking about. I call it "revert a mole." In some way its very satisfying to remove vandalism before the bits are even cool.
And once in a while I'll get enthusiastic about some subject, forget that my additions are likely to be erased by someone who hasn't a clue about the topic, add something. Then six months later, I'll check back and see that most of what I added is gone. Death by a thousand paper cuts.
Anyway I'm a reasonable person who believes that knowledge is power, and the more everyone knows the better off we all are. Peace be with you. Gary
