1. Introduction & Early Life:

  	Roald Dahl was born in  in 1916 to in 1916, to Norwegian parents, Harald Dahl and Sofie Magdalene Dahl. His father had moved to Spartsberg in 1880's. His mother married his father in 1910. 

He was named after the polar explorer called Roald Amundsen who was then a great hero. He spoke Norwegian at home with his parents and sisters, Astri, Alfhild, and Else. Dahl and his sisters were christened at the church that their parents attended. In 1920, when Roald was still only three years old, his seven-year-old sister, Astri, died from appendicitus . Weeks later, his father died of pneumonia at the age of 57. Roald attended The Cathedral School whan he was eight years old. He was a very naughty boy as he used to play a lot of pranks than that got him and his friends into trouble. After some years he was sent to a boarding school which was called Saint Peter's. It was an unpleasant experience for him. He was very homesick and wrote to his mother almost every day, but never revealed to her his unhappiness. He was like other children who usually get home-sick when they are away from their parents. Dahl was very tall, reaching 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) in adult life. He was good at sports, being made captain of the school fives ans squash teams, and also playing for the school team. He developed an interest in photography while has growing up.

 Career:

In July 1934, Dahl joined the shell petroleum Company. Following two years of training in the UK, he was transferred to Dar-es-Salaam. As it was then pride to fight a war for a country, he joined the army for the world war 2. He was first a commander of a Platoon. He later was made a member of the Royal Air Force. He was training with 20 member and out of which only 3 survived and the others died in combat. With a little experience of flying a plane this talented man learnt quickly and

learned to fly a plane alone. He later was made a Pilot Officer. His experiences made him write mavelous stories. He once had to fly a Gladiator plane from Egypt to another place. He could not find the air strip and ran out of Feul and carshed. He was resqued by a team and and taken to a first aid camp. There he fell in and out of love with a nurse, Mary Welland. Dahl had fallen in love with her voice while he was blind, but once he regained his sight, he decided that he no longer loved her.

He had many other experiences in the world war that he wrote about in his books. His fate made him survive the world war. He went through many other experiences in his life. In 1980 He was also revealed in the 1980s to have been a clandestine agent for MI-6, the British Foreign Intelligence Service, serving in the United States to help promote Britain's interests and message in the United States and combat.

Life after the War:

	Dahl married American actress Patrica Neal on 2 July 1953 in New York City . Their marriage lasted for 30 years and they had five children: Olivia (who died of measles in 1962, aged seven), Tessa, Theo, Ophelia and Lucy. He dedicated The BFG to Olivia after her death.(The BFG is a children's by him which is very famous. The fullform is the Big Friendly Giant (BFG)).

In 1965, Neal a problem with her brain while pregnant with their fifth child, Lucy. Dahl took control of her rehabilitation and she eventually relearned to talk and walk as she could not talk or walk. They were divorced in 1983 following Dahl's affair with Neal's friend, Felicity , 22 years his junior whom he later married. His daughter Ophelia is director and co-founder of a non-profit organisation called Partners in Health. Lucy Dahl is a screenwriter in Los Angeles. Tessa's daughter Sophie Dahl (who was the inspiration for Sophie, the main character in her grandfather's book The BFG) is a model and author who remembers Roald Dahl as "a very difficult man – very strong, very dominant ... not unlike the Father of the Mitford Sisters.

His Death: Roald Dahl died in November 1990 at the age of 74 of a rare blood disease. He was buried in the cemetery at the Parish St. Peters Church. According to his granddaughter, the family gave him a Viking Funeral . He was buried with his Snooker Clues, some very good burgundy, chocolates, HB pencils and a Power saw. He was a man how liked Chocolates. In 2008, the UK charity Booktrust inaugurated The Roald Dahl Funny Prize, an annual award to authors of humorous children's fiction. He is is still remembered today

as may children in the world read his book and love him. He is also remembered today by the day on the 13th of September as it is the Roald Dahl Day.

 Writing and some of his works:

His first published work, inspired by a meeting with C.S Forester, His first work was calles “Shot Down Over Libya”. Today the story is published as "A Piece of Cake". The story, about his wartime adventures, was bought by The Saturday Evening Post for $900. This inspired hin a lot to continue writing. His wriring style is a one that has a lot of humerous scenes. He weaves the words as though he was their master. He is a very good a writer as he writes not only stories but poems, plays and so on... He writes mostly for children because of his love for his children. He has written many books for children and adults. Some of htem will be listed below:

  Conclusion:

He as a person has contributed a lot to the language of English. He has gone through a lot in his life as he had fought the world war 2. H has written may books that entertain and teach people of many ages. His works have become world Famous and some of them have been made into films and plays. His works have been adored and have inspired many a heart. His children and grandchildren have also aquired his talent and so continue to write.

Now this world Famous man lies in rest in his grave.
