Harry John Bollback (born January 20, 1925)[1] is a Christian evangelist and the co-founder of Word of Life Fellowship with Jack Wyrtzen. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Anthony and Anna Bollback.[1]

Biography

Harry was born "Harry John Bollback" in the borough of Brooklyn, New York on January 20th, 1925. He later met Jack Wyrtzen in the 1930's and co-founded Word of Life with him. Later, in the 1940's, Harry enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and fought on the Pacific front of World War II. After returning from the war, he became engaged to Mildred "Millie" Winkler. The two married in 1948. In the 1950's, Harry partnered with Harold Reimer and went to Brazil in an effort to evangelize to the Xavante tribe. The success of the missions trip sparked the founding of Word of Life Brazil in 1957. There, the very first Word of Life Bible Institute was opened under the leadership of Harry. He was the director of WOLBI Brazil for 14 years. Harry has continued his work with Word of Life ever since, and still lives on the campus of the Pottersville, New York Bible Institute.

Family

Harry married Mildred Bollback in 1948. They have three children: Larry(born 1952), Elizabeth (born 1956) and Suely(born 1959).

Brazil

Word of Life Brazil (known in Brazil as Palavra da Vida Brasil), founded in 1957, was the first international outreach of Word of Life Fellowship. The first youth camp was held in Atibaia the following year. The ministry is based near São Paulo, but also has several other locations throughout the country. A center in Paudalho consists of a youth camping program, a one-year Bible Institute, and various evangelistic outreaches. A youth camp has been established in Curitiba. The Porto Alegre team recently initiated the Word of Life Bible Club program in local churches, regularly ministers in public schools, and is developing a youth camp property. A center opened in Belém in 1989 and includes a Christian Day School, a camp and retreat facility, and a Missionary Training Institute where students are trained to minister to the Amazon people who are accessible only by boat. A sixth ministry location has opened in the Goiás area with a conference center complex and plans to develop a youth camp.
