Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is an upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It is currently being developed by Konami for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows.

The game follows the plot of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Set in 1964, Naked Snake, a former Green Beret and Korean War Veteran,[1] now a CIA division FOX operative, is tasked with rescuing a Soviet rocket scientist named Nikolai Stepanovich Sokolov, in the Virtuous Mission. Sokolov is held against his will in the Russian jungle[a] and working on a mobile nuclear ballistic missile system, named the Shagohod. Snake is unsuccessful in his mission, when escorting Sokolov, he is captured again via helicopter by Snake's former mentor who he has last seen five years ago, formerly a SAS operative and leader of the Cobra Unit, The Boss, who has defected to the Brezhnev faction of the Russian Spetsnaz GRU. While Sokolov is being moved in the helicopter, Volgin, another member of the Brezhnev faction, fires an American Davey Crokett stolen by The Boss and destroys Soviet design bureau OKB-754. Premier of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev then calls American president Lyndon B. Johnson, and says that to prove America's innocence and prevent total nuclear annihilation, The Boss must be killed and recover the other Davey Crokett stolen by The Boss in one week. Naked Snake is tasked with Rescuing Sokolov, destroying the Shagohod, eliminating Volgin and The Boss in Operation Snake Eater.

The game was announced along with Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 at the 2023 Playstation Showcase.[2] While the Master Collection Vol. 1 is set to be released in Autumn of 2024, the release date of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is unknown. The game will "be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience".[3]

Gameplay

Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater will follow the same gameplay as Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The game is of the third-person shooter and Stealth Action genres. The gameplay involves Naked Snake (controlled by the player) moving through an enemy (mainly Russian GRU soldiers) filled environment undetected. Such environments include a jungle, a military fortress, and a mountain. The game is open-ended in that the player can take many different approaches to slip past the enemy. This includes many tools and gadgets, such as a cardboard box, night and heat vision goggles, a fake gavial head and binoculars. Many weapons are also included in the game, ranging from handguns to rocket launchers. Core features include the survival viewer, in which Naked Snake can change uniform and face paint for greater concealment, eat food that is procured via killing animals in-game, curing injuries, and equipping weapons. Another feature is called Close Quarters Combat, or CQC, in which the player can grab, throw, knock-out or kill the enemy (mainly Russian GRU soldiers). The game will include updated visuals and a new engine from the original Snake Eater.
