In the car industry, Underglow is either neon or LED aftermarket tubes that are manually connected to the bottom of automobiles which makes the car glow underneath in many colors of the spectrum . The Underglow is used in cars but sometimes motorcycles can also have but custom orders. The origin of the underglow started when people wanted to stylize their car in order for them to make it more unique. The underglow has become very popular in car shows in order for the cars to seem more unique and it could appeal more to potential clients. Underglow is a very controversial aftermarket tool because the law states that it could be a distraction to the driver. Thus, many states have prohibited the use of underglow in public roads.
Neon tubes that are used for the underglow of a car start of beating it up to high temperatures. From there they are air vacuumed and filled with Neon gas. Though Neon gas only produces the color red, adding other elemental gases could change the tube up to 150 colors. Mercury makes blue,Carbon Dioxide makes white, Helium makes gold, and Phosphorous creates different colors under various pressures. Due to the fact that neon tubes are gas compressed, the tend to break often white going over speed bumps. With the neon tubes, people are more able to adjust them to follow specif rhythms like music.
LED's are called Light emitting diodes which are semiconductor small bulbs which witch can be put together. LED's LED's last longer for a long time since the light bulbs take a long time to run out. LED's are put in the same manner like Neon tubes and the installation is the same. LED's can emmit more than one color at a time since only certain bulbs be on and so it can flash repeatedly without no need to stop it.
The average price for Neon tubes is 100 dollars without installation and the Price for LED's is around 150 dollars. LED's last p to 1/2 half longer than Neon since Neon tubing is more prone to break.
In the United States, certain underglow lights can be considered illegal. The colors could be distracting to the drivers or the drivers could easily be confused them for police officers. For this reason, colors like blue, red or or any kind of flashing lights are banned from public streets. The laws on the underglow of a car depend on the state and if they believe that it could be harmful for the drivers on the road.
Almost all the states prohibit the colors green, red and blue because these are used for emergency purposes only. States where there is a lot of traffic and have a lot of cities have stricter regulations due to the high risk of crashes. Police and the state government officials believe that bright colors at night could be dangerous for people who are also driving.
In California, underglow lights are allowed to be used in places other than public roads and there could be a penalty if found using them in public roads. This is unless that they are able to get permission from a government official to use it. According to the law, if a police officer sees the underglow tubes, he has a right to stop you unless they are turned off. In a personal property, any lights can be used for display purposes only.
