The Inconsistent Triad can help us to understand the problem of evil. The sides of the triangles are labled:God is omnipotent, God is benevolent, evil happens. However the solution to evil is by changing "God is omnipotent" to God is potent which suggests that God is not all powerful.
Evil and suffering.
There are two types of evil and suffreing. They are Moral suffering and Natural suffering. Moral suffering is an evil caused by humans wheras Natural suffering is evil caused be nature which has nothing to with humans. The issue is who is responsible for natural suffering? Is it God?
Traditional Theodicy Augustine Augustines theodocy is soul deciding which means that the soul would either go to heaven or hell or purgutory. Augustine believed that before the world was perfect. Men wouldn't go to work and there was no child birth pain. But after the fall of Adam and Eve, Men had to go work and women had to suffer labour pains. Augustine beileved the aim was to return to perfection which was heaven for Augustine. He also believed evil was the lack of good and the cause of evil were humans. Evil and suffering is like a test.
Iranaeus Iranaeus' theodicy is soul making which means that humans have to become perfect in order to be prepared for heaven. Humans were made imperfect so their aim was to bcome perfect. Evil and suffering was seen as a way to grow and learn and to face and overcome evil. Humans had the choice to choose good over evil.
Swinburnes free will defence Swinburne believed all evil was caused by humand and therefore for him there is no such thing as natural suffering. Humans had the choice to choose good over evil and it was up to humans to remove evil and suffering from the world.
Religious views on life after death Christianity Christianity believe in ressurection which menas that humans are raised from the dead and are judged amd then are either rewarded or punished.
