Michel Mañanes is a prominent French pianist currently residing in Spain. Highly esteemed for his sensitive and technically polished renditions of the Classical piano repertoire, including works by Albeniz, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, Granados, Liszt, and Rachmaninov, he is also a well-known teacher and music critic.
Mañanes started his musical studies at the age of six, at the Conservatoire de Musique in Fontainebleau, France, where his teacher was Gisèle Lambert. Mañanes excelled at Fontainebleau, performing widely and winning First Prize in several performance competitions. At the age of fourteen, Mañanes transferred to the Conservatoire National de Troyes, where he studied with Geneviève Jacques-Dupont. After completing his studies at Troyes, with the highest distinction, Mañanes entered the Conservatory of Santander, Spain, where his teacher was Manuel Valcarel. Having won several competitions during his studies at Santander, Mañanes obtained a scholarship to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid. At the Madrid Conservatory, Mañanes studied piano with Joaquin Soriano, also developing expertise in a variety of subjects, including chamber music and piano pedagogy. As an exceptional graduate of the Madrid Conservatory, Mañanes received a full scholarship to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where his professors included Hans Graf, Carmen Graf-Adnet, Cristina Karayeva. Already known as an accomplished recitalist in Vienna.
Following the completion of his studies, Mañanes established himself in Santander, where he is active as a concert pianist and teacher. An acclaimed recitalist, Mañanes has performed in any European cities, including Rome, Madrid, Nice, Warsaw, and London. According to reviewers, Mañanes' playing is an elegant synthesis of technical excellence, stylistic accuracy, and appealing artistic interpretation.
