A Tall Case of Murder

A Tall Case of Murder

It was a hot day of summer, 1996. Detective Backforth was working on a case of a serial killer. Officer Charles and Professor Edward were working with him on the case. Officer Charles was working on the case because he messed up his last mission. While professor Edward Villium was working on this case because he always took summer cases. All of them were stuck to this case like flies on a spider’s web.
Detective Backforth was looking at the case’s reports when his telephone rang. “Backforth, he got another one. Another murder happened,” exclaimed Officer Charles. “Come quick”. Detective Backforth went to the place Officer Charles described. He found himself on a beach shore in Baskerville. At the far end of the beach was a tall cliff. On that cliff stood Officer Charles and Professor Evillium. Detective Backforth went to the top of the hill and from there he saw a body of a boy at the shore. Detective Backforth sprinted down the cliff like a child in the playground, and when he reached the bottom, he saw the body of a tall guy wearing glasses.
“What’s the status?” asked detective Backforth. “The victim was pushed from this cliff,” replied Prof. Evillium as he came down the cliff. “But, he was strangled to death” explained Prof. Evillium. The detective found out that no one knew where the boy was yesterday except for his best friend, but they didn’t meet. Detective Backforth started walking by the beach and thinking. “How did the murderer know that the boy would be here? He couldn’t have met him by luck. Unless...”
Detective Backforth turned to Officer Charles and told him that the murderer must have been living in this area. The only way for the murderer to know that the boy has been here was that he saw the boy by luck, so Officer Charles and Detective Backforth started their investigation. They ended up with two suspects. One was by the name of an elderly couple (Mr. And Mrs. Johnson) whom according to the neighbors they never saw; while the other house was by the name of a bachelor called Noah. The neighbors claim that Noah only enters his house at dawn and leaves it at noon.
While detective Backforth went to investigate the elderly couple’s house, Officer Charles went into the other house. He knocked on the door, but no one answered, so he went in. The house was creepy and spooky. Charles was in the house for almost half an hour when he heard noises coming from upstairs. He quickly took his rifle and ran upstairs like a lion chasing his prey. As he reached the top floor he saw an opened window and a man running away from the house. He was about to go after him when his phone rang.
35 minutes later, as Officer Charles went to the bachelor’s house, detective Backforth went into the house of the elder couple. The house was empty and dark; the detective went into the living room, but didn’t find anything except for a mirror in the corner. There was a window that had a perfect view of the cliff. Detective Backforth was looking at the mirror when he heard a sound and in the mirror he saw the reflection of a huge shape behind him. In a second, detective Backforth was hit and fell unconscious.
The detective finally snapped out of it, he woke up in the same dark room. He didn’t know how long he had been in that condition, but he looked at his watch it couldn't be more than ten minutes. He shall now double his concentration and tighten his reflections. The detective shouldn’t have let his guard down so easily; the dark room was getting too suspicious. He was still recovering; when all of a sudden, he heard a sharp noise coming from downstairs.
The detective took the stairs cautiously and without sprinkling the bread. He managed to arrive at the basement without making a sound. The detective witnessed a room filled with pictures of two guys; one of them was tall and he had some glasses on, while the other man was short, but he had a difficulty trying to see his face because it was scratched over. Could it be the face of the criminal, but who is the tall guy with him? Detective Backforth completed the investigation and kept on seeking for clues. He found a small window, which was quite suspicious, because it wasn’t shut off firmly, as the lock was picked off. It had a much larger curtain than it should have had. It was a thick, long green curtain with a number of yellow stripes covering it.
There was also a table in the corner of the room. It wasn’t a modern style table, but it was tough enough to carry a body. It had a number of papers on it and also some type of liquid spilled all over it. The liquid had a pungent smell of rotten cheese. The detective pulled out the papers and realized that they were medical reports; Mental institution reports. They looked unsuspicious at his first glance, but eventually he realized that these reports didn’t include a patient’s name. Detective Backforth then contacted the mental institution, but the seeds didn’t seem to grow. They wouldn’t give him anything; they claimed secrecy rights. He called Officer Charles and summoned him instantly. He sent him to the lab; to take some photos for DNA tests. The detective stayed on the investigation and swam deeper into the poison to find a cause. The floor had many burns and the walls were torn down. The walls had a pattern; a pattern that snatched the detectives interest. It had a warm blue curve in the center and a blunt spark of yellow stars around it. The detective kept on seeking for information around the perimeter. He found a few letters behind a photo officer Charles left behind. It was dusty, so the detective rubbed of the dust; there was a name on that photo. The name was Drake V. the rest wasn’t clear. As soon as Det. Backforth read that name, he returned back two days later , remembering when p….. He couldn’t believe it. Det. Backforth pulled out his phone to contact the lab and officer Charles.
A while ago, professor Evillium was working in the lab when he heard a knock on the door. Before opening, he remembered to put his laptop on sleep mode. When he opened the door he was shocked, but not surprised to see Officer Charles. Officer Charles had in his hand a file; he explained that it was for the case that they were working on. Professor Evillium took the file and opened it. He was surprised to see the picture of two guys: one of the guys face was scratched on, while the other one was a tall guy wearing glasses. Professor Evillium told Officer Charles that he needed to go to the result room to fetch the DNA results that he had worked on earlier. Professor Evillium went to the X-ray room to check on other cases results, so he said that he will fetch the DNA results on his way back.
Officer Charles was waiting… After a while officer Charles thought that he needed to find out more about the case so he, opened professor Evillium laptop to check more information about the case. When he was searching for the reports he found a file named “Confidential File”. He opened it and saw pictures of a tall guy wearing glasses; he noticed that it was the same guy from the photos of the basement. He quickly closed the laptop and stepped away. When he heard Professor Evillium’s voice behind him telling him that all the researches were negative (no DNA was found). Officer Charles told professor Evillium that he had to go to see detective Backforth because he needed him. Officer Charles was in the Parking lot near his car when his phone suddenly rang, and it was detective Backforth. He picked up that phone and told detective that he knew who the criminal was. A bang was heard and Officer Charles fell on the floor unconscious as professor Edward stood beside him holding a bat. Detective Backforth was still on the line when he heard the sound, and he thought to himself could it be that Charles is kidnapped.
As professor kidnaps Officer Charles he takes him to an island. The detective knows that the officer is kidnapped, but he kept thinking where would the professor take him. The detective remembered the basement and the photos on the wall all of them were in the same place in Derby Island. The detective had one chance and he knew he can’t blow it, so the detective came up with a solution.
He knew that they are at Derby Island so the detective went there before the professor to set a trap. The detective kept waiting for the professor he didn’t want to catch him as soon as he arrives because he wanted to know what the professor was up to. He wanted to know what Edwards plan was. Backforth went to the island and hid himself behind rocks on the shore. A few minutes passed then the professor arrived while the officer was chained by a metal cuff, so the detective followed them till they reached a safe house which was really scary. The house was full of skulls and very dangerous weapons.
When the detective entered he declared to the professor to stop right there or he’ll shoot. The professor replied that the detective wasn’t brave enough, so the detective exclaimed “Edward you not a bad person you are not the reason of the murder of your brother, drake,” then the professor told the detective “how do you know about my brother, who are you to judge”. The detective said that he knew all that he needed. He knew that drake was the reason he got mental problems. He knew why he squashed his victims. “Your brother” said the detective “he was squashed to death, he fell from that cliff over their” said the detective pointing to the cliff out the window. The detective was making a distraction for Officer Charles to escape, But unfortunately the sound of the metal cuffs were too loud, So detective Backforth took out his rifle as professor Edward partied his weapon to officer Charles and then a gunshot was heard …….
