Theodore Joseph Johnson (born February 26, 2001) is a Canadian professional football tight end for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions .
Early life
Johnson was born on February 26, 2001, in Winnipeg, Manitoba , and grew up in Windsor, Ontario .[ 1] [ 2] He attended Holy Names High School , where he played Canadian football .[ 3] Johnson was selected to play in the 2020 Under Armour All-America Game , but did not play in that game after suffering an injury in pre-game practice.[ 4] Johnson was a four-star recruit and committed to play college football at Penn State over offers from Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State.[ 5] [ 6]
College career
Johnson caught four passes for 56 yards during his freshman season with the Penn State Nittany Lions.[ 7] He had 19 receptions for 213 yards and one touchdown as a sophomore.[ 8] As a junior, Johnson served as Penn State's second tight end behind Brenton Strange and caught 20 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns.[ 9]
Professional career
Johnson was selected by the New York Giants in the fourth round, 107th overall, of the 2024 NFL draft .[ 13] Johnson was also the second highest rated prospect ahead of the 2024 CFL draft ; he was selected 71st overall in the eighth/final round by the BC Lions .[ 14]
Personal life
Johnson's older brother, Dominic, played football at Buffalo.[ 15]
