Byron Mallott's party affiliation

So I recently changed Mallott's party affiliation in Template:Current Alaska statewide political officials to Democratic from Independent. A user reverted this edit claiming that sources indicated he was a Democrat. Does this source that indicates he did not change his party registration to "undeclared" in order to run as an Independent suffice? http://www.adn.com/article/20140901/walker-mallott-join-forces-governors-race He is also listed on the Alaska Democratic Party's website (http://www.alaskademocrats.org/elected-officials/) though this he is listed along with Independent Governor Bill Walker. Do we care about establishing a consensus on this?
