Removal of overlap between Vector algebra relations and Vector calculus identities

The article Vector calculus identities describes identities involving integration and derivative operations like the curl and gradient. The article Vector algebra relations involves only algebraic relations like the dot and cross products, and no calculus.

The present dab page helps the reader to select which of the two lists Vector algebra relations and Vector calculus identities is most suitable. Brews ohare (talk) 15:37, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Again there is only one article of vector identities, as that is where the article List of vector identities, formally called vector identities was merged. See that article's talk page. Vector algebra relations is not even a list of identities. Further the main purpose of DAB pages is to deal with similarly named articles, such as Fairy and Fairy (brand), not to link to articles which serve similar purposes - we have categories for that such as Category:Mathematics-related lists, as well as "See also" sections and other mechanisms within articles.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 15:47, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps you would care to explain why a redirect to Vector calculus identities is somehow preferable to a redirect to Vector algebra relations? It appears to me that either might be of interest. Vector calculus identities is not a complete listing of the content of Vector algebra relations, nor would that be advisable.
It would be preferable to separate the material already in Vector algebra relations that is duplicated in Vector calculus identities and actually has no connection to calculus. Perhaps you can explain your resistance to that as well? Brews ohare (talk) 16:02, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
The reason why is "vector identities" are vector identities. So if someone wants "vector identities" they can find them at vector identities, which is a redirect to vector calculus identities. If there are any missing identities they can be added there, though the list looks comprehensive.
Your new article is a list of miscellaneous identities, properties, definitions and inequalities, not of just identities. And again seem my comments above about when DAB pages are needed: in general they are not used to link to articles just because they have similar content.
As for "it would be preferable" you are the only one asserting that vector calculus identities need to be split into two articles. This goes against my judgement, that of the editor who merged the article, as well as other editors who did not object at the time. You should not try to undo the merge against this consensus by just asserting "it would be preferable" and ignoring the reasons for the merge.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 16:39, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'd suggest that listing algebraic identities in an article devoted to calculus identities makes Vector calculus identities a miscellany improperly named. Brews ohare (talk) 19:17, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
