Oscillating two-stream instability

Can we add a section for the related "oscillating" two-stream instability to this article, and then add redirects from Oscillating two stream instability and Oscillating two-stream instability? Thx. Figure it would make more sense to have both covered in one article and then have redirects rather than having to maintain separate pages... Is Oscillating two stream instability synonymous with two stream instability, or is there a technical difference between thee two. IE, one oscillates and the other doesn't? For now, I'm going to add redirects from Oscillating two stream instability and Oscillating two-stream instability to here, as I assume these are intimately related subjects, with oscillating being a sub-type of two stream instability. If this is wrong it can be corrected later, but I'm fairly confident this should be correct. So, I guess it's just a matter of adding the appropriate section(s) or mention(s) relating to oscillating two stream instabilities. Mgmirkin 19:20, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Naming convention? Dash or no dash?

Just wondering what the ACTUAL naming convention for this instability is. IE, does it have a '-' (dash) or not? IE, is it 'two-stream instability' or 'two stream instability'? Let's be internally consistent. The title uses 'Two stream instability,' but the first line uses 'two-stream instability.' Let's pick one and go with it, but let's pick the right one. I just don't know which is more technically correct or more consistently used in the literature. Currently, I've put in a redirect from Two-stream instability to here, on the assumption that the naming on the Instability page is correct? If not, we might wantto correct it there too, if it requires a '-' (dash). Minor quibble. Just wouldn't hurt to be consistent. Encyclopedic formatting and all that good rubbish. In Stix's textbook it always appears with the dash. I believe the dash is correct. Cswancmu 26 March 2018 (UTC)

Bump-in-tail instability?

Noticed the following line in the latter part of the article: "In the case of the two stream instability, when an electron stream is injected to the plasma, the particle's velocity distribution function has a 'bump' on its 'tail'."

I'm wondering, then, if Two stream instability is synonymous with Bump-in-tail instability (on the page for Plasma Physics requests), if so, perhaps we could note the alternate name in the beginning of the article, with a mention of why. Mgmirkin 19:14, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
