My recollections are classified as "original research" and therefore not "encyclopaedic" as defined by Wikipedia for Articles, but might be of interest to some, and are therefore relegated to Talk. I started work in 1976 in the state government's "Automatic Data Processing Centre" at 4 Victoria Place (the small red brick building at the back). I soon noticed that some colleagues were parking their motorcycles in the large vacant quadrangle in the middle of the Torrens Building, entered via a pedestrian doorway on Victoria Place. The surface was soil mixed with a bit of rubble indicating that structures might have existed previously. Around 1980 (and certainly by 1981), a Demac building filled the entire quadrangle and became the offices of about half of the ADP Centre staff. Demac was de-mountable accommodation designed by the Public Buildings Department (who themselves occupied the new high rise building Wakefield House immediately to the east). During 1981 my small team worked in an office at the eastern end of the Torrens Building, with our window facing directly across to the main entrance of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. It was already known as "Torrens Building" by 1981, so the un-cited preamble comment of this name starting in 1997 is wrong. Kapunda (talk) 03:31, 18 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
