No strong objections. I would tend to keep it as a stub but it is awfully short. I could see a moderate size article explaining the details of this but perhaps it should be pulled out of the larger TOF and IMS articles once it more filled out. There is the issue of a redirect since it should really redirect to two different places. I would keep for that reason alone and then link to both in the stub.--Nick Y.17:53, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
The dual link thing is a problem. And if a Hadamard transform MS article gets written, that would be three links. Ion mobility seems to be the first and main use, followed by TOF-MS and then HTMS. Here's a link to the original BN article doi:10.1103/PhysRev.49.388 and here's the first time the BN shutter was used in a MS: "Laser Tandem Mass Spectrometry in a Time of Flight Instrument" R. Weinkauf, K. Walter, C. Weickhardt, U. Boesl, E.W. Schlag, Z. Naturforsch., 44a, 1219 (1989). - according to doi:10.1063/1.2006308. And here's a good introduction doi:10.1063/1.1416109. I'm not sure if the present state of this article is good. If the main goal of this article is to present the Mass-to-charge ratio use of the term, then the generic name Time of flight should not be used. ToF is also used in ranging / distance measuring, and this article is to narrow. I suggest to move the present article, and create a generic ToF article which should describe the generic term (the time an object or signal use from A to B) and then link to other articles and special cases such as the mass-to-charge ration use. Other articles that uses the ToF principle is Time of arrival and Time difference of arrival.
