Talk:The Protomen

On Citation Overkill

Backreading through the talk page and revision history, it looks like there was more or less a pissing contest over what the band could or could not be considered genre-wise, among other things, that lead to mass over-citing that made the article messy to read to your average Wikipedia user. To make life easier, I've moved the citations in their style and influences section to the end of sentences or logical end of thoughts, but now it's very clear this article is in the domain of WP:OVERCITE. Similar geek rock or nerd rock groups such as The Megas, Starbomb, and Ninja Sex Party usually have 1-2 sources per sentence (or logical thought conclusion point) and at most, in one occasion, 5 on the Ninja Sex Party page. The "critics describe..." section of The Protomen has 12. I think it'd be best for the health of the article to cull a good deal of redundant sources where possible, or (if ALL citations MUST be kept,) re-cite the page entirely with H:CITEBUNDLEs made where necessary. The coding of H:CITEBUNDLEs does require that all citations in a cite bundle be standalone citations, so they can't be referenced in other parts of the article, which is why the entire page would likely need to be re-cited. The readability with the citations is a concern. I can look at bundling all of the genre and related citations in an EFN or similar, which should still work with the existing cross references without breaking anything. Thanks for the feedback! Pingnova (talk) 21:54, 11 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
