Hiya Binksternet, Have you got a citation for 415 Records recording Rank and File? I don't find them in the article cited (which does include the other bands). I also don't see them on the Discogs listing for 415 Records releases, nor the AMG listing for Rank & File & not noted on their page either. I know Escovedo recorded there with the Nuns, but maybe not later after he moved to Texas and joined Rank and File? I might have the timing wrong, and it's a minor point, I suppose, but it should be accurate & properly cited. If it is accurate, I'd like to include Rank & File in the list of bands recorded on the 415 Records article I'm working on here, also using that cite, if there is one. The weekly magazine Billboard mentioned Rank and File at the Automatt in their July 17, 1982 issue. The section of the magazine called "Studio Track" is where Kahne and the band appear. Billboard wrote "Action at the Automatt, San Francisco: ... And Rank and File are working on an album for Slash Records with David Kahne producing and engineering." Cheers! Is there a good reason to keep this in the sentence about his work as A&R man for 415 Records? I'm thinking something more like: "By 1982, he was also producing and engineering Rank and File for Slash Records." (with that citation you gave), following the sentence that notes the bands he was actually signing and recording for 415. It seems misleading as written, which is why I asked, but I may not have a clear understanding of Kahne's precise role with Automatt, as regards 415 and other labels, so please enlighten me if I'm missing something, because I don't find it in this or the 415 article. David Kahne was Director of A&R and Staff Producer for 415 Records before me, and in that position he had the freedom to record other bands for other labels. So yes, he recorded Rank and File for Slash while working for 415. I had a similar freedom and recorded a Jonathan Richman record for Sire, a Robbie Smith (never released) record for Arista, and several records for Infrasonic. Thank you for clarifying that, as it's extremely helpful. I refined that point about both Kahne's & Levitin's roles with 415 Records, working in the Automatt office, where you are both mentioned in that capacity in both this and the 415 Records article. You may want to check whether I nailed it properly yet, on both articles. =) I may refine it a little further as you note here, in the 415 article. This level of detail, though fascinating, is probably better suited for inclusion in the individual articles on David Kahne & Daniel Levitin and their activities, and perhaps also (respectively) the Slash Records and the Infrasonic Records and Sire Records articles, than it is for the specific articles on The Automatt & 415 Records. duff 20:52, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

This has to be the most overly long article existing on Wikipedia. How does this article have the words "San Rafael" in it, or 500 other totally unrelated things?
