Paraeducators, or paraprofessionals, are another assistant found in American classrooms. In South Africa, educators require a formal qualification to teach (BEd). This qualification is obtained at a university that offers education as a four year course.

Once students obtain Thier qualification (degree), they can formally start teaching.
