I can see how this article was written by someone working for "Fine" the company that makes GEO5. It is a good article but it describes in to much detail what the software does and does not do. Response - it certainly looks like that

I agree, and it reads like spam. I'm no expert about wikipedia's rules, but the multiple external links and references to specific software certainly looks like spam. There are many other software packages that use the same method - and other methods - and many engineers still do this sort of analysis by hand. It would probably make more sense to link to the dmoz page: http://www.dmoz.org/Science/Technology/Civil_Engineering/Geotechnical/Software/

OK, so I removed some links at the bottom to the "Fine" website, and replaced them with the dmoz list as described above. I don't have the time (or knowledge for some parts) to go through and correct the whole page, so I've just marked it as spam, which it pretty clearly was/is. I noticed that other pages (e.g. Bearing_capacity) also have arbitrary links to finesoftware.eu. I would go around just deleting them, but I'm new here, and don't want to annoy anyone.

As a professional geologist - actually I am a volcanologist, we use all sorts of software for various problems. You may find that the person who wrote the article is familiar with "Fine" but may not work for the company that develops it or even sells it. They should and could have made a simple reference to it as an indication of the software that is available, or better still stated something along the lines of "Various software packages are available that enable the engineer to model various problems."The Geologist (talk) 15:47, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Move Limit Equilibrium Analysis to new article ?

Important note: there is no natural association between slope stability analysis and the methods that this article for the most part describe, that is limit equilibrium methods (LEM). The stability of slopes may be evaluated by a number of methods of which LEM is one class.
