Mentioning taskbar at every turn is horribly Windows^tm centric.
GIMP is by no means a representative sample of SDI, it's a very special case called cSDI, and wanders slightly into MDI domain. A real SDI app (like notepad, or pretty much any application that's not an image editor) would be a much better example. 130.226.173.20 03:35, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I concur. A true SDI application can never open multiple documents without needing to start multiple instances. MSPaint, Notepad or Wordpad belong to this category, while other application such as Word or old versions of NEdit do not (they can open multiple documents in the same instance, but open a full window for each).
And GIMP is not MDI either, it is some strange combination of floating windows with a floating toolbar as the "main" window (which is very confusing for people used to SDI or MDI).
I propose that Single document interface be merged into Multiple document interface. As it stands, this article is only 7 sentences long, and only over half of them are about MDI, not SDI. I couldn't find any additional sources with which to expand this article. The MDI article already has its own section about the relationship between MDI and SDI and each subsection alone is still much bigger than this entire article.
