Regarding [1], @Gadfium: I doubt Crowe went to a private school in Auckland. Per other sources, it seems most likely he attended Mount Roskill Grammar School, and he may have also gone to Auckland Grammar School.

• Mark Staufer claims very explicitly that he went to Mount Roskill with Crowe: [2] and [3]
• NZ on Screen says he went to Mount Roskill.
• Metro says “Both schools lay claim to Russell Crowe.”
• The Herald claims him for Auckland Grammar: “It has also been the school of many All Blacks, including Sir Wilson Whineray, Grant Fox and Kel Tremain, Olympic medallists Sam Webster and Hamish Carter, cabinet ministers including Sir Doug Graham and Jonathan Hunt, medical researchers such as Sir Peter Gluckman and Sir Graham Liggins, the novelist John Mulgan, the painter Charles Goldie, businessmen including Sir James Fletcher and Richard Chandler, test cricketers including Jeff and Martin Crowe, and their film-star cousin Russell Crowe.” and a photo of him with the even more explicit caption: “Film star Russell Crowe attended Auckland Grammar.”
• Auckland Grammar themselves have a post, in which someone calls him an Auckland Grammar alum: “While a lot of his work involves extensive travel, Kim has been able to attend a couple of reunions with Grammar Old Boys and recalls one memorable night in Naperville, Illinois. "I had dinner one snowy night with two Grammar alumni - [film producer] Lloyd Phillips '63 and [actor] Russell Crowe '77.” I regard this claim as less certain.
• And finally, from Auckland Grammar's archived class photos, in 1979 we have someone named Crowe, stood next to someone named Russell. This could be our ultimate source of confusion, or it could be Russell Crowe in full. Someone less prosopagnosic than me might like to confirm, but I reckon it does at least kinda look like him.

I was going by the reference following the sentence: https://web.archive.org/web/20200919194350/https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/sunday-style/russell-crowe-is-looking-for-love/news-story/f08c04f7175200b9bfa2c792c36da4a6, which says "Crowe attended a private high school in Auckland before leaving at age 16" and doesn't mention the state schools. Since the current source is an interview with Crowe, it has credibility. You could add the metro claim and source for balance, e.g. Both Auckland Grammar and Mt Roskill Grammar state schools say Crowe was their student.<ref as above>-Gadfium (talk) 01:00, 4 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

GRAMMAR. Change "In 2025, Crowe was honoured by Zurich Film Festival with Lifetime Achievement Award.[68]" TO "In 2025, Crowe was honoured by Zurich Film Festival with -the- Lifetime Achievement Award.[68]"

Hi, I personally consider the status quo lead sentence ([4]) fine as it is, given MOS:NATIONALITY (which states, "... in controversial or unclear cases, nationality is sometimes omitted.") and that we do summarize his background later in the lead. I definitely don't feel a need to state twice in the lead that he was born in New Zealand ([5]). Pinging @4TheWynne, who seems to disagree with me (per [6]). Thedarkknightli, I tweaked the lead to avoid mentioning New Zealand twice, which is fair enough, but you're making out like I've added his nationality back, which I didn't – that he was born in New Zealand isn't up for debate, and therefore a sensible workaround that I figured would satisfy the most people who would otherwise rather have something there than just "an actor and film director" and make it less likely that we would need to deal with further edits/discussions around his actual nationality. 4TheWynne (talk • contribs) 01:46, 21 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Just to clarify, I was the editor who made the change from “Actor” to “New Zealand-born actor” in the short description.

My reasoning was not to reintroduce a nationality label, but simply to provide a basic biographical fact that Russell Crowe was born in New Zealand. Since the lead already discusses his background elsewhere, I viewed “New Zealand-born actor” as a neutral compromise that provides more information than simply “Actor” while avoiding the nationality dispute itself.
